I think they stealth nerfed the hl1/1.6 (positional?)sound after some updates between 2011 and 2013, you could check that out using very old builds of the game like 2009 or 2008 and up-to-date steam ones.

"Flocking" refers to cut Boid npc, an alien flying creature that had flock AI with the flock leader and basically flocked around the room dynamically responding to obstacles and danger.

Hopefully these types of effects will make a comeback. Rainbow Six Siege is in my opinion really good when it comes to sounds, but you don't notice how good it is in normal multiplayer.

that flocking room, in the copy of the demo I got there are birds in there. dunno why yours wasn't working edit: sorry I mean bat-alien-xen type alien flying thingies. I can't exactly remember what they were but they were definitely there cause I remember shooting at them as they flew around the room in, well.. flocks

The flock room shows the bat aliens to select their leader and follow one bat alien. When you kill the leader, the flock selects a new leader and they follow the leader.

I remember playing Rainbow Six online on gamespy and the sound was really important to playing. You could tell which direction and room the enemy was in via sound.

Flocking still exists in half life, in that original alpha build that room had little flying aliens that looked like manta rays called "Boids". If you're using a release build of half life to play that map I dont think that room works because they changed the boids a bit. But they are still present with the same flocking AI in the final game, they are just in the background on Xen like once or twice. They also have an alternate model that was used in Blue Shift for one scene.

Perfecting reverb or trying to match set reverb values to different settings is probably impossible. You'd have to be able to account for sound moving in all directions in straight lines bouncing off off the surroundings... idk what i'm talking about

Some time ago you made a video. About how long can mm in cs go take but you only covered defusing mode or something like that not a hostage and when you pickup a hostage you get 1 more min and i think that mm could take more than 200 min

I'm guessing in csgo it takes the size of the room into account, which is why the reverb is so subdued in those tiny rooms

If you didn't know, the flock room was designed for an unused enemy type in HL1 while in Xen, where these enemies would flock together and follow a leader, but once the leader died, they'd decide on a new leader and follow them.
