I actually think they use the big reverb on dust. After shooting an AWP at the last second of the round, i could hear a very similar echo after the next round started.

DSP has been in since Half-Life 1. You can actually find a room demo'ing DSP effects in the 1997 leak. I don't doubt the depth of sound programming though so I'm sure there's muuuch more into how, within DSP for example, these things work. Even if it's just optimization.

hey, can you help me with cubemaps, pls? i know you did some tutorials about it and i watched them. but i still have problems. so i did everything you've done. the over reflective (chrome) objects turned realistic, but tiles, laminate etc. still dont show any reflection. i have to say i made a map thats 15 times the size of a normal one. so for example an apple is as big as you, so you have two walk 2 minutes to get out of a house. i this maybe causing the problem? i tried setting the cubemap to default and the biggest option. nothing changed.

I like this new sound very very much! Its much more realistic. The nicest is the phasing of some second reflexions and this convoluting like character. Like there are simulated interferences, what is affected from the source position AND the receivers position, i noticed. Its way closer now to realistic soundwave behavior. NO ONE of my mates noticed it. Some just noticed the slightly different bomb beep xD.

Counter-Strike 1.6 had soundscapes as well. Because GoldSrc had them since HL1, and they were way more pronounced, to the point of being kinda cheesy.

hey phil, did they update the bot sounds? Because today on italy the bots all said simulationiously "I need help!" but i never heard them saying that at the same time. only one by one. also when rescuing the hostage the bot whispered in my ear "ok i follow you". since when do they whisper?? Isnt that some CSS hostage sound file?

I always wondered why Valve stopped utilizing the DSP effects. They made a big deal of it waaaaay back in the HL1 Alpha press demo but mostly just used it for outdoor areas in HL1 and 2, then never used them in any of their multiplayer titles. Glad to see they're finally using it again - maybe they'll improve on it or add new presets?

Yet, this is good for when you are looking for info of enemies in cs, learning the different sounds at different places on dust 2 for example. Being able to distinguish tunnel and outside echo noises is great!

Frankly speaking, valve has a lot more things to fix and improve in CS:GO. And they spend their time adding "Echo" to the game... You disappoint me valve.

are the reverbs all full stereo sounds? if so then even if the footstep sounds (which are somewhat directional) are at the same gain level, loudness, the full stereo reverb will distort your perception and thus potentially make it slightly harder for people to hear the footsteps. This may be why some comments have been made in this regard.

Hey Philip! I was wondering if the draw sounds were affected by this update and if so how much. Since you own a butterfly knife, you probably know what I mean when I say that the metallic sound of it and the Bowie Knife seems different then before, but yet from what I have heard the other knives sound stayed the same. Please upload a video demonstrating all the DSP effects naturally. Perhaps you could make a map that has example scenarios of when each soundscape could be useful to use in a map, that you'd show in the video as you demonstrate the DSP effect. Or use existing maps. For example you could be in the tunnel of Italy while demonstrating the tunnel effect, you could be in Nuke ramp while demonstrating the chamber effect, etc, or make your own. I'd like to see a cavern with the effect, I don't think any official maps have caverns. Maybe the sewers of Militia. The point is, it would be like visual and audial ASMR all in one.
