I bet you anything they're gonna annouce CS GO for PS4 and x1 soon....
Kevin Vo (2 years ago)
+Zombfeud Yeah. In my opinion it will always be a PC type of game. I own every CS on my steam along with all the Half lifes and many more. I'm just looking at it from a business stand point. I may be right I may be wrong.
Kevin Vo (2 years ago)
+Zombfeud yeah I agree. I'm a PC gamer as well but I like consoles as well. I'm not saying I want it on consoles it's just an educated guess. Look at all the remaster that happen and is coming then look at how this game is being revitalize.

If you don't think this is absolutely next level for esports, you are blind. When in history have video game competitions ever been televised for the entire world to see? Not a website like Twitch, but actual television.

They better have a very defined set rules on "performance enhancing drugs" since they was that case of the pro cs team taking adderall so I'm not really sure how they would decide what would be banned and what wouldn't
Captain Obvious (2 years ago)
I'm glad they picked CS and not a fighting game. The FGC still needs time to mature some more before mainstream attention.

I would take any check but people make a living off of this shit and don't have an real job. If your monthly paycheck comes from playing shooters it is laughable. Shooters are for fun but you shouldn't make it your main job.

Opportunity to earn money, sucks when you dont have such but no reason to hate on those who do. You WOULD TAKE a check off playing games if you could and so would I.

+BoomersGold Original Diction of Sport; "A source of amusement or entertainment" which eventually evolved to "An activity involving physical exertion and skill in which an individual or team competes against another or others for entertainment"
BoomersGold (2 years ago)
+A Hoxha That doesn't make any sense? It's not a sport, but let's put the word sports in anyway so that people will start viewing it like they do with real sports? Why not call it 'competitive gaming'?

Now i can game while watching gaming on cable :)
oG-DaLLaS (2 years ago)
Yea but the point is to get it more out there. get it more mainstream so people who don't know about competitive gaming to acknowledge it
14supersonic (2 years ago)
Not quite sure how successful this will be. For instance, this show is going to go right over the heads of people who aren't even gamers to begin with, thwn not to mention that most gamers are probably not even going to care because of its specific focus on CSGO. Last thing being is that this is a TV show, and most gamers probably don't even have cable so that makes this show almost unwatchable for some. I would be cool if they could do a show similar to that old show that used to be on Syfy channel, can't remember the name.
Spacemonkeymojo (2 years ago)
+14supersonic It's not hard to understand Counter Strike. That's one of the reasons why it's such a great competitive game.

once again, still going Valves way; They're really not hands-on on promoting CS-GO pro scene and the scene is growing as big as MOBAs but as Valve always do, they're letting the community do the work for them, it always has been. IGN failed to mention $3m prize money for the Dota 2 majors which is still bigger in other moba's prize poll out there
Isshon Saha (2 years ago)
+Blitz Kaiser lol thats a nice load of bullcrap people believe. It has been 75 percent valve and 25 percent to prize pool for all these years and it has done wonders for valve so I don't see any reason why they would want to change that.
Isshon Saha (2 years ago)
+Blitz Kaiser $3M is only the BASE prize pool of this major. It will also feature a compendium which will multiply the base prize pool by 3/4 times in the very least just like the TI(The International).
Asumhaloman (2 years ago)
Ok to all you people thinking in the past saying that Esports is not a sport. here are some sports that are actually considered sports LOL. Pro MiniGolf, Curling, Crab Racing, Mountain Unicycling, Rock Paper Scissors, Extreme Ironing, Cheese Rolling. So please go on about how Esports is apparently less skillful and less competitive than that
BoomersGold (2 years ago)
Well, a line has to be drawn somewhere. Most definitions have an 'athletic' or 'physical requirement' to it. For example, dictionary defines it as an 'athletic activity'. If you were to ask people what they'd define as 'physical effort', i can assure you that most people wouldn't consider the 'rapid movement' of a finger on a mouse to be physical in any way. That being said, a line has to be drawn somewhere. Every activity involves some movement, and what differentiates sports from something like a pie baking contest, gaming competitions and eating competitions is the physical exertion element. Most dictionaries, including the Oxford dictionary, explicitly mention this and you and I can both agree that mouse clicking wouldn't fit the basic definition.
Sukh Sandhu (2 years ago)
+BoomersGold here is the Cambridge definition of sport "a game, competition, or activity needing physical effort and skill that is played or done according to rules, for enjoyment and/or as a job" The only part that is debatable for esport counting as a sport is the 'physical effort'. To some it means kicking a ball and to others it will mean precisely moving your mouse to another players head across the map. The rest of the definition fits perfectly to esports so unless the definition changes so that it's not left to people's interpretation of physical effort there will always be an argument of people interpreting it differently.
BoomersGold (2 years ago)
+Asumhaloman The definition of 'sports' isn't a competition where there is 'movement'. It has to be athletic in some way. Otherwise, cooking would be considered a sport and two guys competing to see who could watch the most tv before falling asleep would be considered a sport since it involves 'keeping your eyes open'.
BoomersGold (2 years ago)
+Justin Ryan I also disagree with calling chess a sport since it doesn't meet the requirements of the definition. The folks running chess have been trying, for years, to get the Olympics to include it, but I doubt we'll be seeing it any time soon.
Kordass (2 years ago)
+Asumhaloman Oh, I'm not saying they have to have tons of muscle. Maybe "extremely" was an exaggeration. They should be able to fit into a cockpit no problem after all. However, their neck muscles are usually stronger than most people and they still have to be really fit to be able to keep focus in difficult conditions. My point was that saying "if racing drivers are athletes, then gamers are also athletes" was a pretty poor comparison. Comparing it to chess makes a lot more sense.
Counter Strike is for nerds

vdashgaming (2 years ago)
Brilliant. Valve is setting themselves to take things over down the road.
Jun (2 years ago)
+Little Caesers Higo my mistake, i thought it's dota because of the massive prize pools, csgo majors needs to have a $1m prize pool to go against other majors
The Ethical Pixel (2 years ago)
Dota has biggest pots in the international but that may change soon. Also just adding factual data csgo viewed alot more and more globally watched than dota or Any game hence csgo was the right choice.
The Ethical Pixel (2 years ago)
Gabe had that mindset when with MS.
Vault420 (2 years ago)
It makes me cringe how some people consider video games a sport. And that's coming from a gamer.
The Ethical Pixel (2 years ago)
If Crab Racing is considered a sport then ....
The Ethical Pixel (2 years ago)
Soon video games will involve more than arms and fingers.
Blitz Kaiser (2 years ago)

Blitz Kaiser (2 years ago)

arvinder270 (2 years ago)
although I don't really consider it a sport the definition of a "sport" fits with esports although it would definitely be wrong to call them athletes.

Gameassassin1020 (2 years ago)
So it's finally happening. There will be much ridicule at first, but as is with any sport right?
Gameassassin1020 (2 years ago)
+BoomersGold According to google the secondary definition for athletic is "physically strong, fit, and active." Active being the key word. Besides in the end, its still called an "esport" so its be predetermined as a sport, same with chess.
BoomersGold (2 years ago)
+SlyTy98 So does eating hotdogs at a hotdog eating contest or cooking at a cooking contest. I wouldn't define any of those actions as being 'athletic' though.
Gameassassin1020 (2 years ago)
+BoomersGold But, moving your hands takes exerts energy as well? Its no different then taking a standing shot in basketball.
BoomersGold (2 years ago)
+SlyTy98 It does, and you quoted it correctly in your original post. "Sport: an athletic activity requiring skill or physical prowess and often of a competitive nature, as racing, baseball, tennis, golf, bowling, wrestling, boxing, hunting, fishing, etc." - Dictionary.com Google defines it as an activity involving 'physical exertion'.... Basically, most, if not all, definitions of sports have an 'athletic' or 'physical' requirement to it. I play a lot of sports myself, but I'm also a huge gamer. Gaming isn't a sport purely because of the fact that it doesn't meet the basic definition of it.
Gameassassin1020 (2 years ago)
+BoomersGold This definition doesn't have the word athletic in it. Sport: an activity involving physical exertion and skill in which an individual or team competes against another or others for entertainment. Is it really so hard to believe that mentally taxing competitions can be sports as well? I mean the idea of a sport or to do this for sport is to compete, it doesnt have to be athletic at all.
yung zed (2 years ago)
hi silvers
video games aren't sports
Asumhaloman (2 years ago)
+Uncle Tom's Cabinet I Don't think that you understand the culture in Esports. most people who watch Esport watch Esports because they like watching it there. is no vendetta against "jocks" or trying to fit in to that crowd of people. do you really think that anyone would think because you play competitive gaming and call it esports they will automatically be classified as a athlete? these are just people who want recognition for what they do. simple gaming is for casuals but esports is hardcore competitive gaming. kinda like how casualy tossing a football around isn't a sport but actually playing the game is.
