Sponsored By Dmarket.io : http://bit.ly/2HSFoVR Watch my Streams : http://www.twitch.tv/valvenewsnetwork Steam Group : http://steamcommunity.com/groups/VNN Today on Valve News Network, we take a look at (almost) everything Valve has done over the last 10 years, to try and figure out exactly what has caused the drastic change between this decade, and the last. Things like TF2, DOTA 2, CS:GO, Steam, & VR all matured in this time span, but likely longer ago then you remember. Can you imagine getting a degree and the going to work for the company hoping that you could feel you're worth something by the products you create? Valve won't eventually go under because they failed the player, they'll go under because they failed their employees. I can imagine in futures time, it will be an office joke uttered by employees in game studios like a remnant of the lost ark. (literally).
Nahuel (2 days ago)
So LFD2 + Portal 2 + CS Go + Dota 2, and a bunch of updates and random Steam/VR stuff. Mmm okay... And a ton of Valve employees leave...

Valve doesn't deserve a man like Tyler. Maybe Valve should do something in return, if only.

why not put the dates on the side?

Valve so far. (BEGINNING YEARS) 1997-Valve founded 1998-Half Life 1 1999-Team Fortress Classic 2000-Counter Strike 2003-Steam launches 2004-CS Source (GOLDEN YEARS) 2004-Half Life 2 2007-Team Fortress 2 2007-Portal 1 2008-Left For Dead 1 2009-Left For Dead 2 2011-Portal 2 2012-CS:GO 2013-Dota 2 (DARK YEARS) 2014-nothing 2015-nothing 2016-nothing 2017-nothing 2018-Artifact Really the only good thing that came out of the dark years for me is Black Mesa which was a fangame. Oh and also Bridge Constructor Portal which was fun but not even made by Valve either.

I know Valve hasn't done much in the last years. But what happens after our Lord and Savior Gaben dies?! I'm afraid Steam will become so bad that developers will stop publishing their games there and everything goes to shit.

I was pretty alarmed when near the end of the video at least 3 or 4 writers/developers announced they were leaving Valve all within the same year. Some pretty bad things must be happening at Valve, but anyone could have guessed that when Laidlaw left.

After the release of Portal 2 and the announcement of global offensive everything went down hill. Valve started focusing on digital currency and marketplaces; along with Pro Gaming, VR hardware, and competitive multi-player. Innovative Single-player experiences were no longer Valve's focus, as they no longer needed to create these to stay financially afloat. However, their public image has begun to dwindle in the eyes of die-hard fans who came to know them for their interesting creative risks and development techniques. With the announcement of Artifact many of Valve's long-time fans saw it as the most unoriginal piece of software they have ever announced (Since there were already many similar virtual card games on the market); and with the release of Laidlaw's Epistle 3, almost all hope of a new or original single-player experience being produced by Valve has been expended. With the majority of the original developers going into retirement and Valve clearly moving in a different direction, The company is clearly no longer what it used to be.

Literally every detail about artifact, many of which were known on its actual announcement day, suggest that it's an incredibly unique take on the genre with a playstyle no game in it has attempted before, all directed by the person who literally invented the entire genre. I think it's doing fine

Potato Sack ARG actually started April 1st, not 4th. It was also known as the "Potato Fools Day ARG" for that reason. It's just that back then it took a bit longer before ARG's got noticed and reported on by the media / YouTube. I should know. I only found out on day 2, and it took a full 2 days more before people found the hint that made me climb up a pole at the Two Tribes studio.

Gloryous Gaming (1 month ago)
Basically, Valve doesn't care anymore. They have a monopoly on the market and people will use their products no matter what. I'll give you guys a summary of the last 10 years: CS:GO and Dota 2 get released alongside TF2 and get updates. Also some Steam Hardware. By the way, CS:GO is dying, fast, particularly since there is basically no updates, and the last major one ruined trading resulting in halved player counts (not actually half but too many anyway).

Fun Fact: The DOTA 2011 International Tournament also had 3 TF2 hats given to anyone who participated. They are: Clockwork's Helm Sniper's Snipin' Glass and Storm Spirit's Jolly Hat (Resembling his hat's appearance before getting a model update on November 14, 2013.)

1230james I could tell he skipped it, but why? He’s documenting major things valve has done over the last ten years, and I’d say that Meet your Match was pretty major

For the Adult Swim Colaboration: They aired a TF2 Advertisement, MTP and Expiration Date on Adult Swim. I say that's a pretty sweet deal for a collab.
Good video. Missing Mark Laidlaw departure, however

Why are you playing HL with super pixelated textures?
IBradFrazer (1 month ago)
Valve conquered the people with their games, then Valve conquered the world via their Steam platform, and now... Valve sit on their backsides doing fuck all because they earn several billions of dollars a year for allowing thousands of shitty early access asset flips onto their platform - ruining everything:( Praise Lord Gaben!
Kill Drumfp (1 month ago)
It could be worse.... They could be releasing bad games every 6 months with Micro transactions and loot boxes

I remember the day I joined Steam. April 27, 2011. My 14th birthday. Comming from a poor family I was extatic to get $20 added to my account. That day I played so much TF2 and another game I can't quite remember on a laptop with 2gb of RAM. The day I upgraded from Gameboy to PC Master Race. That day changed my life.
Scibra Crandami (1 month ago)
To summarize, Valve has turned into a money whore.
PBStormForce (1 month ago)
Good, but you left out a lot of TF2 and CSGO updates. Also, you did not put the actual date on the screen, just the year. Sometimes I forgot what year you were talking about, literally

I might be grasping at straws here but based on recent quotes from Gabe about Valve building up their company for hardware and software it seems Valve wants to expand themselves past relying on Windows and just PCs. It's likely that they've just been building the infrastructure and staff in the background for them to make a console or a better platform for them to develop without too much reliance on other companies. Either that or they were so blown away by VR 6 years ago that they've been just going hard on VR, which is kind of weird considering there was nothing to do with VR when I went to the International last year, but there was the year before.
