How to Add Steam Games to the Windows 10 Start Menu (2015)

359 ratings | 30172 views
Adding steam games to the windows 10 start menu isn't as easy as you may think. You cannot pin a regular steam shortcut to the start menu but with this method, it's not really too complicated. 1. Right click on the game you want to be in the start menu and click "Create desktop shortcut". 2. Hover your mouse over the newly created shortcut and write down the numbers at the end (these numbers are the app id for the game). 3. Create a new shortcut directing to "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\Steam.exe" -applaunch 4000 The first section is the location that steam.exe is located in quotation marks. The second section tells steam to launch an app. The third section is the app id. 4. Right click that shortcut you just made and click "Pin to start".

Scykick (12 days ago)
if you just place the game shortcut in "C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Steam" then you can find it in the programs list and pin it from there.

To be fair, Steam made it needlessly complicated. Not at all Acidic's fault, however. I think this was a very comprehensive tutorial.

$2.99... BS
search pin more in the windows store, it looks pretty cool
naah you're just lazy.. I'm a network engineer but and i' m probably gonna spend more time looking for an easier way than I would just doing this xD
Kash Power (2 years ago)
that's fine. as long as I don't have to do something complicated.

I just write down the Steam ID then go straight to New - Shortcut. Enter the path to your steam.exe enclosed in double quotes followed by -applaunch and the Steam ID. Select Change Icon... then browse browse to Steam\Games folder and find your icon. Select OK. Pin the new shortcut to Start. If you have a lot of them to do, just create the first one as above then right-click the same new icon and choose Properties. On the General tab you change the name to the next game. On the Shortcut tab you change the Steam ID and select Change Icon... and pin to Start as above. Repeat until you have all the Steam IDs pinned to Start.

It's simple. Go to the folder Steam\SteamApps\common\game\exe file, right click / pin to start

Yeah yeah, whatever. What I wanna know is how you make it so that when you type the game into the search bar it shows up. I've really tried everything and it seems impossible. (Windows 10).

Actually if you just place the game shortcut in "C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Steam" then you can find it in the programs list and pin it from there.

Thanks for the guide, still works. I started over my computer with a new OS, but transferred over my steamapps folder. Naturally, I lost my previous start menu shortcuts.

Some games do not function properly without running through Steam.
Samuil B. (11 months ago)
No thats wrong, you only run the .exe, for example: CS:GO.exe will show you that you are in VAC insecure Servers, GTA V only starts in the Storymode...
Chris Field (2 years ago)
+NathMorr Oh...
NathMorr (2 years ago)
+Przemo I That runs the game directly, which is different from running it through steam- It wont have the steam overlay or show up that you are in-game.
Chris Field (2 years ago)
+Przemo I Thanks!

Thanks! Here's a little tip for you: when you're in File Explorer, hit <shift> then right-mouse on your program name. A new option will appear in the context menu: Copy as Path which puts the path in the clipboard.
