CS GO - Are stalemates possible?

What happens? Is there a DRAW?! I think we all know there isn't, but the rules that govern who wins are a little bit more confusing. SHOOTING EACH OTHER - Depends on the server and who it likes more FALLING - One seems to land just before the other sometimes, other times it looks identical but still chooses one to die first over the other. GRENADE - CTs win? I haven't tested with objectives but this was without a bomb or hostage in the map. If anybody would like to build on this then please do so and show me what you find! In 1.6 one time me and my opponent killed each other in awp battle. I even screenshotted it, but lost it (it was a long time ago).

I have always wondered this for CS:GO, until one day I managed to kill a terrorist at the same time he killed me in a comp, however this only happened to me once. I think you can do it with certain guns, as they all have different pull out times. If it happened to me even as low as once, then surely it can be recreated.

draw or stalemates are possible. i was playing wingman with my noob friend. it was 1v1 me and the enemy player. i dinked him now hes low hp. i was 60-70 hp left. i know hes low so i threw a nade at him. when i threw the nade he saw me started shooting me and with low hp left. the nade exploded and he died and i died at the same time. sorry for my grammar plz xd

did you throw any grenades as a terrorist? maybe the player that throws the grenade always wins it for their team and all the clips had the cts throwing the nades, never the terrorists.

i was often in the situation that i aimed at somebodys head with an awp. i shot, my guy fired at exactly his head, started pulling the bolt back, but the enemy then kills me and it said i didnt hit him? i have this too often

If shooting at each other doesn't work, what about this scenario? Let's say that on a 1v1 in a match, both players are facing each other, in the same plane, and one person throws a grenade onto the floor (could be either), will the Counter-Terrorists side win, or the Terrorists side win?

The problem is that bullets in CS:GO seem to have no travel time, it gets to the target right when you fire your weapon (instantly), so it's impossible to do a shot while the bullet is travelling since it doesn't travel at all. It doesn't make a lot of sense honestly. In AWP battles this is quite more noticeable since there were countless times where I heard my AWP shooting but didn't kill anyone because the other guy shot right before me. It should be corrected in my opinion, it would make the game more realistic. With this change, players would have a chance to kill the other guy while the bullet is moving through the air, the player who shoots first still kills the other guy first, but the other guy kills the other player too (draw) unless there would be different weapons with different bullet travel times.

CSGO's lag compensation is literally bullshit... you can't favor someone who has a 60 ms ping over someone with 7 ms ... just because of "fairness reasons" ... this may sound hard, but the system could get tricked pretty easily and it's not fair in any way...

well let me correct u on this one because i have had a competitive match where a t and i (ct) killed each other yes it is most sertanly a rare occasion but still it can happen because of bullit travel time he had a awp and i had a p90 so his shot ended up hitting me while i spraied jij down basicaly i think x3 sorry for my dislectic english i hope u understand ^^

Computers can't do two things at exactly the same time*. Something will always happen first. Even the order in which you connect to the server can possibly have an affect of the outcome. *On a single core of the CPU. Even on different cores one of them needs to tell the other core what happened and one of those things will happen first.

As a software dev, I actually have an answer to this question. All source engine games run on multiple threads for the client, but every transaction that upgrades the state of the game IS DONE IN ONE THREAD. What this means, is that it is absolutely impossible for ANY TWO THINGS to happen (be processed by the server) at the exact same time if they are using the same resource (resources being: match winner, number of bullets in magazine, health, and so on). So when you fire a bullet, that bullet's action is put on the action queue on the server, and if there is nothing else on the queue, it's calculated right away, and until all the server-side consequences of firing that bullet (destroying any destructable object, dealing damage, reducing the number of bullets in the magazine) are done, no other bullet's consequence is calculated. This might seem absurd to you because you are aware that there could be a metric fuckton of bullets flying in any given match, particularly in 50vs50 pubs. So how does this work? Bullets don't FLY, their trajectory is calculated and so are their consequences. Every bullet that is fired is placed on a queue to be processed, which means that even though clients send messages to the server (and the server processes them before placing them on the queue), those actions are NEVER PROCESSED AT THE SAME TIME BECAUSE THEY COULD LEAD TO AN INCONSISTENT STATE OF THE GAME and a huge number of bugs that the transaction model helps against. So how does this work with granades? Granades deal damage in an AoE, so they pick all entities and then process them in a loop. AGAIN, THEY PROCESS AND UPDATE RESOURCES ONE AT THE TIME. That Ts are picked first could be due to your experiment setup, or because they legitimately are picked first by the engine (first it deals damage to the environment, then to TS, then to CTs, etc). Now, what about fall - this is part of the physics engine, and having it run and be calculated on one thread could not only be too slow, but it would also not utilize the resources of the server in a proper way. Instead, falling (and all other physics) are calculated IN MULTIPLE THREADS AT THE SAME TIME. This means it's anyone's game, and there's no determinism, entities are assigned to different threads so they are not all immediately processed or processed at the same time, but on average, they do what the game suggests they will. So what happens here is that even though people fall in different threads, THEY STILL SEND ACTION TO THE SINGLE ACTION QUEUE THAT SOURCE ENGINE HAS, which means that whichever thread or entity sends their action first (yo sup dawg, my entity just crashed into land with this and that velocity, process that) is going to be put on a queue first, and processed, so whoever the engine kills first loses. BTW man I really like your videos, they are both funny and informative about CS:GO.

I've actually gotten a draw one time in comp. The announcer just said "Draw" and no one gets a point. It was really strange and I'm lucky to experience.

You could use a program that binds one mouse signal to two computers or even better a program that simulates a mouse 1 event in two instances of cs-go on the same computer. Additionally, did you play cs-go on a LAN server that is completely wired by only one standard of Ethernet cabling.(Don't use wireless signals too many uncontrollable variables that effect receiver time) There is always a chance that hit signals in csgo multiplayer servers are first come first server. You could test that as well.

Depending on how the server software of CS:GO is programmed, it could make certain checks of game end/victory/lose state come sooner than others and lead to things like CTs winning every time when grenade kills both. For example, if the server immediately checks if the bomb is planted after last terrorist is dead and if not just marks it as victory for CTs without ever checking if any of them are still actually alive it would cause this result. The way shooting happens could have to do with the order players join the server, as it would make sense for the server to process each action of each player in that order if something. It wouldn't really make a difference normally since nothing in the game is timed that precisely and everyone always appears to get updated at the same time since those computer operations can be completed so quickly, but when it comes down to it and you inspect it close computers process one thing at a time and some things have to be done before another in some kind of predetermined order.

This happens because the programmers at Valve are not very intelligent. Bullets are added to an update queue and if the bullet is higher in the queue then it has priority.

@3kliksphillip. as a network / it guy, of course you're going to have different pings on lan. to do a completely accurate test you'd have to have identical computers. even then, there's room for incorrect data. i cant think of a possible way to accurately test it.

I think I've worked out why with shooting it's consistent for equal ping following the first round. If the team score is equal, it's random, but if not as long as it's not following the first round, it chooses the player who last scored/has the highest score.

I had a moment once in matchmaking that at one point me and an enemy somehow managed to kill each other at the same time. It was about a week ago or so. So, it may or may not be possible, I'm not too sure how it happened. All I know is that we killed each other at the same time.
