When is Steam getting a UI update?? Its been years
Tucker Mills (1 year ago)
Wait, how are trading cards being changed?
AtlasTheTitan (1 year ago)
What was the test/mod were you playing in the background?
Yan (1 year ago)
*Hears HOME's Resting State *oh my, this will be a good video.*
ike (1 year ago)
Uhhh.. Tyler, you're missing some apostrophes in your title.
Equis Igriegazeta (1 year ago)
SPUF died today. Are you gonna make a quick video on it? It'd be nice.
RatherUncreativeName (1 year ago)
Have you ever read through the Valve Employee Handbook? I got bored and looked at the tabs at the bottom of the steam program, and in at the bottom of About Valve, it has the link Jobs, which leads to the page with the Employee Handbook. I'm sure I'm not the only person who's found it out, but anyone who's curious about how they do things at Valve, it's public information. (It's also somewhat entertaining to read, like "Whatever group you’re in, whether you’re building Steam servers, translating support articles, or making the tenthousandth hat for Team Fortress 2, this applies to you.") I'm certain I'm not the first person to read it through, but I'm also sure that not everyone in this comment section has read it either, and maybe someone who's interested is going to read it through.
PineappleGmr (1 year ago)
And frontline?
imitatsiya (1 year ago)
>when you forget apostrophes
david4jsus (1 year ago)
So, the fee for Direct is $100 per game, but can be recouped when the game sells enough. However, I haven't seen any information about free games (yes, free as in no money is paid at all). If a developer wants to upload a free game will they just loose those $100? Anyone has any info on this?
HQDefault (1 year ago)
There's two missing apostrophes in the title. Literally unwatchable.
DavidKFZ (1 year ago)
Kinda happy they've made a harder barrier for entry. All the social rejects and weirdos at the fringes of society kept greenlighting fucked games
North Rave (1 year ago)
lonkchase (1 year ago)
Spirrwell (1 year ago)
So I've got to ask, how is it a recoupable cost for free to play games? Is it not?
Professor Bearington (1 year ago)
Good Question.
Mark Nunes (1 year ago)
It keeps getting worse. Isn't this just a way to get money. They honestly couldn't think of another way to solve the problem other than making more money for themselves?
Mark Nunes (1 year ago)
Rating system?
Paradoxical Outcome (1 year ago)
Mark Nunes Because you're probably not looking enough at Greenlight. It's like gping dumpster diving, with more shit-to-actual-good-stuff ratio than a real dumpster.
Mark Nunes (1 year ago)
Yeah another reason not to play video games at all. You aren't able to find any good game with a flooded system?
Paradoxical Outcome (1 year ago)
And how could they solve the problem other than by making it more expensive for trolls to flood the system? Also, they explained that the 100$ will be refunded to the developer over time if their game makes it to a 1000$ in sales, AKA the lower threshold of a probably real and not a shitpost decent game's sale. This actually makes them less money. Don't put your game onto the system if you don't think it'll make even a 1000$.
Ethan Marshall (1 year ago)
For some reason I read that as if death itself was greenlit on Steam, not the death OF greenlight.
Ethan Marshall (1 year ago)
Paradoxical Outcome Ah, yes, you're right. Well, I at least find the title amusing, even if it is grammatically incorrect ahah
Paradoxical Outcome (1 year ago)
Because he wrote "Greenlights Death" (As in Greenlighting Death) as opposed to the correct "Greenlight's Death" (Death of Greenlight). See? Grammar sometimes matters.
Lemmy S. Kelton (1 year ago)
Homicidal studios joke here

CubedPotatoesHD (1 year ago)
And nothing of value was lost. The garbage fire that was Greenlight Ruined Steam.
Neco The Sergal (1 year ago)
"If you're going to dump games on Steam, you have to at least give us $100 per dump first". So, if the dev believes their garbage may trick at least $100+ worth of 'content' from foolish customers, they'll just pay the fee, get a small profit from gullible people and rinse and repeat as before? Only, Valve is making more of a market for them to gain no matter what?
THE SUPREME DALEK (1 year ago)
Is Portal 3 confirmed
S1nwar (1 year ago)
how are trash games even a problem? just buy games with good reviews ^^
todesziege (1 year ago)
Someone has to bite the bullet and buy it for there to be reviews.
Bálint Németh (1 year ago)
1, Stop liking your own comment. 2, Its a problem becouse its really hard to find that needle in the haystack of shit greenlight games.
hoob sug (1 year ago)
thats actually very good, I always hated these gayfuckers with crappy games
Notta Reelname (1 year ago)
does valve just fix all of these problems with a bigger paywall?
HRPrime (1 year ago)
They should also watch for cry baby "developers" that get offended by the smallest bit of criticism on their asset flip games. Give them the boot like Digital homicide got it.
thefoolishgmodcube (1 year ago)
Reminds me of the Wilson Chronicle developer who would report every single negative reviews (including mine) along with some bullshit excuse to do so.
Yolk Arch (1 year ago)
What mod are you playing in the video?
Yolk Arch (1 year ago)
Chris Marshall (1 year ago)
It's Blue Portals, friendo.
coolkid (1 year ago)
That is a hot mod.
James Burns (1 year ago)
great, now i have to pay if i wanted to get any games onto steam, great way of killing off some potential game developers valve.
James Burns (1 year ago)
I got gamemaker studio while it was free on steam.
Paradoxical Outcome (1 year ago)
If you're trying to make a game, you should've already paid far more than a 100$ to various game development tools by the time you're even thinking about putting said game onto Steam.
Mike gent archive (1 year ago)
Chris Marshall (1 year ago)
Blue Portals!
Centurion Zen (1 year ago)
good goddamn riddance I say. and not a moment too soon, but this new system that better be worth it.
FearfulFire35 (1 year ago)
what portal mod were you playing? it looks fun.
FearfulFire35 (1 year ago)
Thank You.
Chris Marshall (1 year ago)
Blue Portals
Feared Alien Voodoo (1 year ago)

So Valve just wants even more money as they get now...
King Kool Kattz (1 year ago)
seem to be missing the point
Combinemon (1 year ago)
THANK GOD FOR JIM (and the cynical brit)
meLon (1 year ago)
I like this change, ti's going to be much less stressful to real indie devs to get their game on steam, as we will basically be guaranteed on the platform as oppsed to competing with "idea projects" that will never deliver, of which many existed just for the trading card scam. As long as we can still put achievements in game from day one, that will be cool. ....though since the trading cards will be given to "real games", and that that is measured by how much they are played, if you make an Achievement Hunter Simulator that's got a bunch of easily obtainable achievements, which will attract people who want their perfect game number to go up... maybe that will be a way to get back into card farming... especially if the achievements involve "play the game for X hours"
Der dasMann (1 year ago)
Just please, let Mxth release Underhell damn it. Waiting is hard
hopefully means less flash game like games on steam
tcmalloc (1 year ago)
What mod are you playing?
Chris Marshall (1 year ago)
It's Blue Portals.
GreatFox42 (1 year ago)
About that trading card thing... So I had heard that that was how scummy devs were actually making money, instead of from game sales, but.. I'm still kind of confused on how that works. Can anyone explain it to me like I'm five?
GreatFox42 (1 year ago)
And people were buying trading cards for crap games? Or was that system manipulated somehow?
King Kool Kattz (1 year ago)
as players sell trading cards for the shit games, a cut of those market sales go to the devs because the card belongs to their game
Eltanin (1 year ago)
man the outros in these vids or rather, lack thereof, keep getting worse. I was alt tabbed and was expecting more only to alt tab back in and then realise that the video was already finished. It just ended on a cliffhanger.
I really wanted to post my game called Dead Wave which is a top down shooter in the style of left 4 dead. Now with Greenlight gone,I now have to publish my game on itch, but nobody will buy my game
Grae (1 year ago)
I found the main message content of the video seemed mostly unrelated to the video that was visibly playing; I'd honestly rather have the blurred game play in the background while static screen shots fill the main portion of the screen for most of the video. This felt very distracting. Excellent reporting, however. I love all of your content, welcome back, glad you've recovered, and keep it up!
HimKioo (1 year ago)
Valve. Fuck me in the ass hole.

holy shit what portal mod or fan game is that .....................it looks cool

Bluesky (1 year ago)
check the description..
QVear (1 year ago)
I think this is great decision on the part of Valve. As for what "recoupable" means, since many people are confused about it, my theory is that Steam won't take its cut until game makes said $100
People People (1 year ago)
QVear that's a good one but I think they mean if your game gets good reviews and isn't a money grab they give you the money back
Tamal Plays (1 year ago)

But i liked Greenlight logo ;C
Alec Farrugia Cachia (1 year ago)
Greenlight was a better name though
Timothy McKane (1 year ago)
Until it become Grimelight instead for unfinished games with asset flips, deleting any evidence, and threatening/harassing whistleblowers that some shady "game developers" try to do all for some desperate, quick cash.
Alec Farrugia Cachia the should change the name to cleanlight
Social Experiment (1 year ago)
you should make a best of portal mods video
Uber Dragon (1 year ago)
Still disliking the fee per game. It's going to help fight the spam, but it's also making entry harder for newcomers. 100$ might not be that much, but I've seen enough really talented developers who were close to absolutely broke when they released their first games, which eventually saved their livelihood.
Solomon Ritzow (1 year ago)
Even if you're broke, I'm pretty sure $100 is not hard to come up with, especially if it is important to your career.
madichelp0 (1 year ago)
A developer that truly knows they have a good game could just borrow a mere $100 and then repay it when they sell enough copies.
staryoshi06 (1 year ago)
It's recoupable. That apparently means the fee will be paid back. Also, if the game is really good, people would be willing to donate on something like kickstarter.
saxxymanene (1 year ago)
I remember when greenlight was first announced, I got excited because it meant indie devs could get their games out easier. I voted on some games and the ones I wanted to be in steam turned out to be good. It made me sad to find out that scumbags were doing anything they could to flood shit into steam and tarnish it's rep. Lets just hope this system doesn't get exploited
deathzero0212 (1 year ago)
No they know what they are doing, this system is designed to make it faster to get a game onto Steam. They're just pretending that this will address the criticisms people have had against Steam. They're disguising it as good PR though. Personally, I don't think the problem is that bad. You really have to look for the really awful games on Steam to find them. I rarely ever stumble upon broken games when browsing the store and recommendations.
The fee will make it harder to flood, but that doesn't mean shit games won't get through anyway. Instead of "Early access" games, they'll just submit them as "complete" when clearly they aren't. Broken piles of scum shit will flow still. Valve acknowledging that it's a problem now when people have been complaining for years show they still don't know what they're doing.
Jaxa 110 (1 year ago)
saxxymanene Of course it will. It is the Internet after all
deathzero0212 (1 year ago)
"Lets just hope this system doesn't get exploited"... lol
orgy57 (1 year ago)
I wish there was a way to unflood steam of these shitty fifty cent meme games that I always get coupons for
Daniel Berke (1 year ago)
You're missing some apostrophes in "Greenlight's" and "Steam's" there in the title and the thumbnail Tyler, just FYI. I don't usually like pointing out grammar mistakes—we all make them after all—but this one does kinda change the meaning a bit.
Chuguzo (1 year ago)
Embedding YT videos = Steam client performance upd I hope they will finally fix yt vids freezing and crashing the steam browser.
Digiquo (1 year ago)

Greenlight was a good source for shit games that make good content on youtube, too bad sucked for the average consumer
mastercoms (1 year ago)
I read somewhere that the $100 fee would be refunded if a game got enough revenue. I think that's what recoupable means.
Frixu (1 year ago)
"We plan to return the $100 fee after a game hits $1000 in sales." ~via ArsTechnica
box man (1 year ago)
Recoupable means that the money spent on the fee will be paid back where there would normally be steam fees until you've gotten your money back.
