Just want you to know that there are people who support you - people outside of his rabid fanbase. Assuming you see this, and you're not already aware, VNN has posted a video called "Massive Half-Life Leaks - Valve Ketchup: July 2018". He only shows a few inconclusive strings and a downscaled HL2 icon (falsely claimed to show a 3) as proof. Even in the face of that, his fanbase defend him. There are reasonable people out there.

TL;DR: Lots of misinformation in this video and overthinking how easy it is for any person, especially being alone, to report on a huge company like Valve that keeps their mouth shut. German seemed to miss a lot of points and didn't seem to watch Tyler's videos or understand that Tyler's speculation is based on the factual information he is currently reporting on. Tyler speculates because that's all he can do, Valve doesn't tell anyone anything. And when he reported "incorrect information" in the clip you showed, he literally said that the people who WENT to Valve, MULTIPLE PEOPLE, all told him, but later it was found they were just messing with him. And how can he fact check it in the moment? How is he supposed to fact check a seemingly very reliable source with a company that won't respond or wouldn't release that information if it was true? A real feeling of this video seemed to be a kind of butthurt, like Tyler said something in a video, you wholeheartedly believed it, and then you got upset when it wasn't true. You kept saying people would believe what he said even if he put speculation; of course, but only a SMALL portion of people. And that will ALWAYS be the case. The REST of the people who tune in to his channel know Valve and that they won't say ANYTHING, so Tyler IF they say anything, Tyler will be wrong. Otherwise, we'll all be in the same boat as him. And he doesn't speculate randomly! You seemed to think that's how he does it. He speculates based on ALL the information he has gathered, not just in a hope or a whim. The information he is CURRENTLY REPORTING ON are his facts that back up his educated guess. If he's TOTALLY wrong and even misinformed, he'll either say so or even edit the video. He has done so before. This video seemed to be from things you have heard or seen in passing, never from actually watching any of his videos. I could be wrong, but that's how it SOUNDS. But it just doesn't make sense that you would make a video telling Tyler to check his facts and be a better reporter when a lot of the thing you say in THIS video seem misinformed or skewed to prove your point. You don't seem to see that Tyler too is a person, and reporting on a company that doesn't give ANY information is WAY more difficult than you made it sound. The immediate argument is "Oh well I'm just a commentary channel, not a news channel like him", but you are basically trying to make an argument, and the sources you use for your argument don't back it up the way you seemed to think it did. Why not just email him this instead of making a video and hoping he sees it? He gives his email in every video and he would most definitely respond in some capacity. Also, just because his channel is called ValveNEWSNetwork, doesn't mean he immediately has to follow the dictionary definition of what the "news" is. He reports on information he finds or is given, checking to make sure it sounds pretty legit, and then gives us his findings. He can't fact check as easily as you seem to think he can because of the nature of Valve not saying anything ever or even really caring about him or his channel for the most part. And maybe he speculates with the VNN logo because he believes the speculation and his opinions and facts are part of the logo , HIS logo? And taking jabs at his speculations that were wrong in a very joking fashion? What did that serve? You said you were just criticizing, but that seemed to be just insulting. And why point out wrong ones like that anyway? You already said some were wrong, and they are SPECULATION. They CAN be wrong, and most likely will! Long response, you won't see it anyway, but there seems to be this disconnect from what you SAID and THINK Tyler does on his channel and in his videos compared to what he ACTUALLY does, especially since a lot of important things were seemingly left out or not considered that really hurts this argument or maybe even backs yours up more.

PinkiePone (4 months ago)
So, in the beginning of your video you say that VNN made a mistake by being reporting on Valve. In order to compensate for this, the video will take small facts and clearly identify them, then create speculation around them. Since the speculations are clearly identified and are based on logical evidence, they are still wrong since they are speculations. Since people can speculate for themselves, they dont' need someone to give them new ideas, or give them facts they haven't considered? That makes no sense. You say the channel made a mistake by choosing Valve. Then you say that the channel is wrong for attempting to find a way to give its videos brief and manageable content, with doses of speculation for its viewers to think on. Honestly Peter, you make Tyler sound like an uninformed fanboy just ranting on facts he found on his twitter feed. The points you make here are relevant to any TF2 Youtuber, not just VNN. Also, I find it a little hypocritical you say you aren't attacking Tyler specifically, but you spend the entire video using Tyler's name instead of VNN. If you don't want to attack him, don't say his name 100 times during your video. Critique the work, not the author.

I don't know about the speculation thing. If you look at channels like the Jimquisition, he states he isn't a news channel, and that is true he is more of a consumer watchdog, however, he does speculate, if only rarely. Meanwhile, channels like YongYeah, who feel far more like news channels, speculate constantly and in a very healthy way for a game. He drums up interest and fan speculation, which is to be expected from a community of fans and also helps to keep people interested in a project. What I am trying to say is, speculation is healthy, so long as it is not allowed to stew forever. This is more on Valve, they don't put rumours to bed and comment on what their fanbases are talking about. They don't engage with their community. Instead, they allow IPs like Half-Life to waste away without stating that the game is dead and that nothing is being developed. In turn, creating infuriating hype that has made it impossible to ever release that game in a successful way. Now, what you say about inaccurate reporting, well that is what makes him more of a tabloid rather than a news channel, consumer watchdog or even a fan community leader. When he is reporting on news, he should be accurate and not jump on any little tidbit he can get his hands on. Which is why I feel his entire channel focus needs to change. One video game company won't provide enough news to maintain a successful channel off of. Which is why I bet his channel feels more like a tabloid rather than a news channel. So, what can Valve News Network do? Well, it's sort of in the name. Report on steam, or more specifically, steam games. Sid Alpha has a segment on his channel where he points out game developers who are honestly garbage or worse. This is something that one channel alone cannot cover 100%. If VNN did this, alongside maybe pointing out good devs that need the attention and from there on slowly moving to cover other things. Then he could ease out of the niche he placed himself in. Sure not all of his fans will be happy with it but he could do more good and reach out to a wider audience as well. Either way, good video, keep up the great work.

I hate you, for some reasons but you are not wrong. I think speculating IS CONFUSING but Tyler do such things to keep the channel a bit alive. I will remind you, he talks about a company who doesn't make videogames since 2012. So yes, speculating is not a real and concrete news, but come on, you really need to look in these little holes? If you wanted to make a clickbait video, just say, "Tyler said i'm fucking gay. And he wants to fuck me really hard".

I personally don't have issues with VNN speculating. Because he clearly states when he is doing so and I know NOT to take away his speculations as fact. The problem does not lie in the person relaying their opinion but lies in the people who misinterpret it. I understand your concern for Tyler voicing his own opinion but he clearly attempts to avoid people taking everything he says as fact by labeling parts where he is speculating

Could I be wrong is seeing that there is no actual critique other than 'His name is bad'. The only thing I could agree with to a certain extent is the overhyping of the community. Let me give some critique about this video: First of all, there isn't much in this video that still holds if he changes his channels name to Dan. Secondly, there is a reason it is a youtube channel, he doesn't have a big team or a lot to talk about. Furthermore, I have never seen him stating that all of his content is 100% factually correct. Now let's brake down the 'Do's and Don'ts section'. There isn't a big problem with wanting him to put forward correct info. There is however a problem with wanting him to quit speculating, the reson for which I will explain. All this video is, is in essence, you calling him out for having a channel centered around reporting about a company which doesn't do a lot of interesting stuff for most people. Without the speculation (which he admits doing and also states while doing so) there wouldn't be much for him to speak about. "Then give your channel a different name!" I hear you say, this is youtube, a channel name should be something fun, something that the channel creator can work with and make content with. It shouldn't just be something that is factually correct... Now I do believe you are German and that your name is Peter, but for a lot of other content creators it is just something that came up. For example, MrPaladin isn't a real paladin (Sorry I had to break it to you), should he be called out for not playing a paladin in a game where there isn't a real paladin? I think not...

Mixa2 (10 months ago)
I remember that about a year ago Tyler did a really bad job differentiating facts and speculations from each other, so much so that people got upset and accused him of clickbaiting on rumours. I'm personally fine with the current way he does things, clearly pointing out what is a fact, a possibility or a rumour, because knowing Valve, the channel would probably die out due to lack of content if Tyler resorted only on verified facts.
ZaneratorGamer (10 months ago)
"Ty made the biggest mistake ever made and chose Valve. At least with Ubisoft or EA you have SOMETHING to talk about." 1. Fuck you 2. He chose it because HE likes it, he doesn't care about his viewers opinions because HE wants to report about Valve. 3. This point is so dumb, it's like saying "Oh? Your mother died in a car crash? Well I think there's a problem, your telling me this stupid stuff when I could've cared if your mother died of cancer." But without such severity. "But Valve, Valve doesn't really do anything... as well as a couple of updates for CS:GO, Dota, and TF2, if they can be bothered that is." 1. Fuck you again. 2. If you don't want to see the new updates that come out for your favorite games or want to see the new game coming out, THEN WHAT ARE YOU LOOKING FOR? Literally everyone wants new stuff, even better if its added to their favorite things, but you don't. So what do you want? "...other people can do the same. Valve News Network reports news however..." 1. Yes, Tyler does speculate but he uses words such as "might" or "maybe" to show HIS guess of what's happening. 2. He announces when he is speculating now so little kids don't confuse "might" for "will" "Prediction implies that there is a lot of evidence supporting the theory..." 1. "New theories that generate many new predictions can more easily be supported or falsified" Predictions don't need proof. "...just saying 'yeah it might be possible therefor it'll happen' is not prediction." 1. Not related to clip showed, no one said this or said something remotely to this / out of context. 2. This is such an idiotic statement I wondered if this was off script or not, having a guess of what will happen does not automatically determine its outcome and everyone knows this. This is why we have debates. 3. ^Follow up^ Tyler's prediction is highly arguable however there will never be proof for either side. So why even show the clip? <The first minute of "Over speculation"> 1. Your acting like hes trying to prove a point to the public like these things are happening, however I was easily able to understand that these are all his "theories" by either the "SPECULATION" in the top left corner or by his diction. "Actual date: October 16, 2017" 1. Wow, who would've guessed? NO ONE 2. The way you portray the "Nope's" and the "Heck Yes" is making me think that you actually thought that every statement that came out of him mouth was correct. This was nobodies reaction to any of this speculation because if it was, people would be pissed ALL THE TIME. <The whole fucking video> 1. He does all of the pros. 2. This entire video is how speculating can be false. But at a professional level, it is unacceptable. This is a truly false statement. Professionals share their speculations sometimes, even if it is false. They want to give a vague assumption so other people can react to it and change his accordingly. 3. If your mad about people giving an assumption on a news network about a company that "doesn't really do anything" ON YOUTUBE OF ALL PLACES, then I seriously think you should be more open minded. Final Stance: You have made several points why VNN is bad at its job, but ignores all of the context. Its youtube, anybody can make assumptions based on no factual evidence. News isn't restricted from opinions, theories, or emotion. Every point you make in this video is "My criticism" however you act like your trying to have a public shift in views for VNN. If you really wanted to give criticism, you would have left a comment about his work instead of posting a video about it. Comments made by popular people are taken more seriously than a video about someone. When someone sees a famous youtuber's comment on a video they MIGHT think "This is important to me personally" However when someone sees a famous person's video about another famous person and their opinions, its like saying "Hey I want you to think ____ is bad too!" This video has been a waste of my time and energy and the script needs to be rewritten or have a big "MY OPINION" in the top left corner of the video otherwise people are going to think your trying to hate against VNN and prove him a big mistake.

Pretty shameful of you to do a video like this, GermanPeter. You could criticize his actions without even mentioning Tyler. I'm not really a fan of VNN either, but you made a fool of yourself with this video. Pretty ungraceful of your part to try to make a buck riding on another person's popularity.

I only criticized Tyler's actions. I never attacked him personally nor did I call him names. I just talked about his channel and his videos. I only said "Tyler" from time to time because constantly saying "VNN" or "Valve News Network" sounded bad, and since Tyler is in charge of the channel, it still works.

VNN does suck up to Valve a lot. While he did indeed feel absolutely shocked and disappointed about Marc Laidlaw's depature and otherwise lack of anything relating to Half Life, he's really easy to please. He said it was perfectly fine for Valve to not have a TF2 Halloween update (outside of a contract) due to the update we got. However, the update we got took over a year and a half. 5 out of 6 of the new maps are community made, 1 out of 5 of the weapons/items are community made, most of the weapon skins are also community made, as well along with all the taunts. So 3/4ths of the content was entirely made by the community and *this* update took over a year and a half. Yet once again we have another Halloween update where we got absolutely nothing of value. VNN said this was the best and biggest update ever which is a flat out lie, we've had tremendously larger updates in the past. WAR, Mannco, UBER, and plenty of other updates were a lot bigger in content size. I suppose the six maps is what he's pointing to, but most of those maps were hanging around at gamebanana, workshop, and tf2maps for quite some time...
GermanPeter (10 months ago)
I am sure the TF team tried their hardest, so I won't blame them. I also won't blame VNN for calling it the "biggest update ever", because I think the TF team themselves said that at one point (I guess I can criticize them for that). I really only blame Valve, for failing to support the TF team more. I know they can't just hire more people, because they'd pick their own projects to work on, but how about hiring people that WANT to work on TF2? Nope, can't do that! We're Valve! We like money but hate working for it!

This was a very well made video, but I have some criticisms. Tyler speculates in his videos a lot, that's true, but with a game like TF2 you have to. The devs don't have the best public relationship with the TF2 community, and at least Tyler has inside information provided by people who work on the team so it makes them a little more reputable. Ond of your points on why he shouldn't speculate is that it confuses people. While true, he says that it is speculation, meaning one shouldn't take it as gospel. And to the part where he says he "predicting" something, what I'm pretty sure he means is that he has enough information to "predict" a date, where he tells the viewers to not take it as 100% truth. And Tyler does relay false information at times, yes. But, like I said, with a game whose devs are out of the loop with their own game, you don't get much attention from them (we'll see how they act in the future though). Although, I do see where you're coming from with most of these points, and it was a very well crafted video. Cheers.
VikingSpaceMeow (10 months ago)
You have bulletproof reasoning, I don't understand why all the dislikes. If Tyler wants to be have a News Network, the channel should operate like one and relay facts. Speculation and hype may seem harmless but it gives unnecessary pressures to the Valve development team and false expectations from players, spiraling out of control with overblown hype and then crashing down on something that ended up being false rumors. There is nothing wrong with some speculation and hype, but it shouldn't be under the name of "Valve News Network" as this implies that you are hearing official statements. I really like VNN and Tyler, but I do think VNN as a channel and brand should stick to facts.

Tankdavid7 that's retarded that I'm not allowed to have an opinion if i don't watch it all the way through. Taseric (10 months ago)
A News channel is meant to report FACTS, He made a point later in the video stating he does not do enough research, which he kinda proved. You can't make an opinion on a video if you havn't watched all of it.

VNN Labels itself as a news channel, News meaning confirmed information, while Peter is not a news channel

I love all the people in the comments on the video & reddit who don't understand the point of a "news" channel.
Troll Dude123 (10 months ago)
I don't see anything wrong with his channel. He's doing his best as he's just a school student.

I like the speculation it gets the viewers to think about the information given, just because a few idiots don’t see the “Speculation” in the coroner and take what he says as fact doesn’t mean he should stop doing it. Oh but it’s news so he can’t speculate, What!? He’s just a youtuber not an actual news station I’ve seen many channels that report on game news speculate all the time (if you need an example Yongyea does it all the time) it just makes the videos more interesting. Also if the name Valve News Network bugs you so much don’t worry Tyler said he’s going to rename the channel in the new year and not exclusively make the valve news videos.
Quoub (10 months ago)
You do know that news sources will note of speculation, right? The whole 2012 end of the world stuff was speculation. Also, most of the video feels like you made mountains out of mole hills.
AgentApple50 (10 months ago)
This video is an attempt to start drama and is completely unneeded.
Soggycheeseball (10 months ago)
um ehrlich zu sein, geht vnn einfach mit dem was er hat und macht ein fünfminütiges video, weil es wirklich nichts zu berichten gibt. auch ich spreche auf deutsch weil ich sehen will ob sie tatsächlich

I kinda have to disagree on the speculation part. While I do believe that news sources should get their stuff from reputation means of information that’s verified and confirm that it is true, I still feel that while Tyler had NEVER been fully 100% right on everything, his speculations so far have not been overly far fetched and at least he did the one thing that many channels tend to miss; Add a really big “SPECULATION” tag. Although his fanbase tends to take these a bit too far, even with a giant speculation tag plastered all over. I don’t know how to feel. There were a number of pretty solid points but its way of presentation felt a little bit....rant-y. I’m not saying you’re wrong, heavens no. I just feel that it felt less like constructive criticism and a bit more like a little rant at few moments. And really, all this could be blown over if the channel was called “Tyler McVicker”. Also, I’m not a VNN fanboy. I don’t even watch VNN all that often and he’s not my sole source of information. I have a lot of other sources as well for my Valve stuff. I'm also in no way attacking Peter. I'm just voicing my opinion on the video, in the same vein as he is voicing his own opinion. I think that's fine. We're free to agree or disagree

VNN would only make short videos every other week if he was wasn't allowed to speculate. Valve just doesn't put out that much information that often. People not sepperating his own speculation from fact isn't really tylers fault. People are retarded and you can't always cater to the lowest common denominator. As long as Tyler clearly specifies when he's speculating I see no problem with it. People often don't have all the information or the sources and connections that Tyler does, so Tyler's speculations can carry more weight than others. The mass media speculates all the time too.

Basically German peter: VNN should be more of a news channel, like the news you see on TV Disliked fans: We like VNN, so you're wrong Liked fans: We agree with what you're saying What we need to do is simply accept VNN as tyler's own channel - not a news channel. The disliked fans would be happy tyler can do what he does, and german peter can be happy VNN isn't a real news channel And also It's just an opinion lol
Damian Skrok (3 months ago)
Except he shouldn't be like TV news. The same problems Peter talked about in relation to Tyler apply to general news as well. Valve doesn't communicate enough to make for an entertaining, frequently updated channel that can make money. Thus, Tyler has to turn to speculations and other not-exactly-news content to give his viewers something new and to stay afloat. Modern news also does that in many cases. Sure, sometimes they report well on something important, but usually it's pointless crap you could live without. "Here's a cryptic tweet from a celebrity with a photo that shows her belly slightly bigger than usual! Here's all the fans speculating that she might be pregnant!" So in a way I agree with GermanPeter that Valve News Network isn't 100% factual, however I do not believe that he should be. He should keep doing the type of content that he does, because it entertains his viewers, keeps him afloat and supplies us with enough reliable information to not be complete crap.

Came in expecting you hate you Peter, but actually, you bring up some really good points
GermanPeter (10 months ago)
Thanks! But please, keep an open mind and don't watch videos with the intention or expectation to love/hate the person or the channel. Just stay neutral to different opinions, even if you think they're outlandish. And, as always, don't hate the person themselves. You can disagree with the person, but that doesn't mean you have to hate them.

Why don’t you create a valve news channel?
FIamestalker (10 months ago)
Very valid criticism, which unfortunately could be applied to a lot of news sources and not just VNN.

I don't mean to say mean thing to other people or Peter himself so if i do, im really sorry, that was not my intention. Tbh, i don't see a problem when he speculation, i mean that's the way he do it regardless his channel name ( Valve"News"Network ). Plus, i think there is ABSOLUTELY nothing wrong about Tyler talk about Valve ( And he like to talk about it like we like to talk about what we want ) And in my eyes, news is not always true/accurate ( Well as least imo ) About the "merge" info ( Or confuse info ), i think it depent on people like me for example: I can know what is news that he report and speculation ( or perdiction ) that he made and not get confuse. Btw, i think that perdiction meaning is a statement about what you think will happen in the future, so supporting evidents are not needed ( or maybe im an english idiot ) Sure he have some flaw and we have to point out of couse like all human ( as some Peter said in the video ) to make Tyler knows and improve. That what i think in a short amount of time i got. Im sorry for bring trigger anyone or any gammar expert. Still, just keep up your good work Peter.

TF2 youtubers justo upload critics againts other channels, we are actually killing ourselves, for this you made kingraja left TF2, this is getting out of hand, and people prefer muselk who playa more overwatch, we should consider watching TF2 channels more
Doctor Who Cares (10 months ago)
Tehn why did he left? You dont know the feeling for beignt criticize tho, you just critize others
GermanPeter (10 months ago)
If someone can't handle criticism, they don't deserve to do whatever they're doing. Criticism is part of any medium and no one is exempt from it. Also, that's not the reason Raja left TF2.
