I think Motion Blur is already there in Source but I may be wrong... Well, with older titles on Source 2, I'd say good luck. Valve has seemingly forgotten about them. They probably will be porting their most popular titles like CSGO and TF2 and also port things like Half-Life 2, Left 4 Dead 2 and Portal 2. But with HL2DM, Counter-Strike Source and Day of Defeat Source there is little possibility. Valve has pretty much forgotten about them and specificly with CS Source's case, if Valve's going to port CSGO, there's no need to port another Counter-Strike game. Also, since these games are really old, even if they are ported, there's a chance they will end up like Half-Life Source, in which it was also ported from GoldSrc to Source and it was broken.
Well, that would be Half-Life 3 Deathmatch... Or if they do port over the older games to Source 2, that would cause problems with the naming. Counter-Strike Source would be CS Source 2, Day of Defeat Source would be DoD Source 2 and so on... People would think that these are sequels to the original games because of the "2" at the end but really, it's just a port...
Technically, they can count up to 3. They just don't how to spell 3. I mean, they released a 3rd Counter-Strike game so they do know how to count. They just don't know how to spell it when it comes to things like Left 4 Dead 3!
If you are counting the first games released on the said engine it should go like
GoldSrc=HL1, Source=CSS, Source 2=Dota 2
But if you are counting Half-Life games...
GoldSrc=HL1, Source=HL2, Source 2=???
We are at least getting games, you know. There's In The Valley Of The God's also coming out on Source 2. Don't act like Valve is doing ALL WRONG and is not being serious in making games, just because you got one card game on a seemingly superior engine.
I think Valve focuses too much on not being seen to conform to rumours and I would bet money on them being held back by leaks from the past.
Furthermore they need to fix or reinvent there VAC system, Now clearly they are able to just hardware/i.p ban these people, But in the effort to remove the cheaters need to 'beat the system' they are taking the 'let them cheat but put them against cheaters approach' this is very clever as it will put the players that try to hide in with the players that are raging thus making the game no longer enjoyable to play for them.
The reason I started with this is that the potentially MASSIVE games like CS need to be clean and competitive to be a success and if i had a new engine (baring in mind my previous engine was destroyed by cheaters) it would have to be 'cheater proof' before i release my new IP and I believe that a select few at valve are acutely aware of just how bad the cheating problem is but are keeping it watered down for everyone else and the public as its totally believable that it can't be "that" bad and in fact there are a lot of cheaters that don't realise there playing against cheaters and spend a lot of the game trying to hide it, Its an incredibly interesting situation.
Now "knowing this" my only concern would be do they really know just how few players are COMPLETELY clean, Even players that i can see have well trained aim, movement and mental dexterity still whip out anti aim now and again.
I guess the answer to that would be that they will be able to detect ANY cheat and these players would most likely start with no cheats to test the new cheat system anywho.
Anyway I'm gonna keep flying the flag of ONLY SKILL and lets see if Valve rewards me cos they f**king better :-D

I've worked in the Source engine for 5 years, making The Battle Grounds 3. I've done everything including mapping, modelling, audio, and ground-up AI programming. I've thrown at it everything and the kitchen sink. Very powerful engine. Hard to get into, because there's almost no documentation available.
Let me tell you what Source does better than Unreal or Unity. It has better geometry building tools. I'm talking about the classic Quake-era blocks. In Unreal, if you want the textures on geometry to align, you have to manually enter the coordinates. In Source, you can do it in one click. And Unity? Unity does not even have the quake-era simple geometry, which means that for *every* rectangular prism you want, you have to redo the textures in an external modelling program. Talk about a downgrade.
I just hope Source 2 provides all the modern stuff with better performance, VR, and all, yet keeps the great geometry building tools of old.
Also i bet the reason they haven't made a HL3 yet is because there hasn't been much change in terms of physics, HL2 was awesome back then with Havok, and is still really good today. They need real time land/terrain interaction, realistic fire & water.. not scripted, that's the way forward. And auto AI learning, though admittedly that last one is probably a bit too early yet.

after watching the video and reading the comments below, i can say something simple regarding the hate against source 2 and that source2 would have a hard time competing against unity and cryengien.. simple.

Seriously though, Source 2 is a weird case of experimenting in different areas until you're spread thin and end up resting on your laurels again with Artifact.
I've entertained the idea of reimplementing the "feel" and compatibility of Source on a newer open-source engine like Godot, but ultimately the enthusiasm from the developer side is waning enough that the indie community won't even entertain its existence.
Time may prove wrong, but for now we're pretty exhausted.
at 1:15 i played that mission and when you get to the magnet thing you have to pick up stuff and put down the bridge, and later on i found a road and another bridge but i don't know if i should go there by walk because my buggy cant climb ladders, or is there another way to get the buggy up there plshelp
I'm just here dreaming of Half-Life 3 in Source 2, day night sequences, cloth physics to animate NPC clothing and hair, higher poly count models for DOG and Alyx, destructive physics brush environments with bits that break off upon weapon impact, procedural physics sequences like glass shards falling off a window in real-time, contorting physics properties and transforming or weaponizing elements via Gravity Gun enhancement. Don't mind me.

THEY DON'T OWE YOU ANYTHING, THE ONLY REASON THEY RELEASE THE ENGINE IS FOR USER GENERATED CONTENT, AND AS LONG AS THERE AREN'T ANY GAMES ON IT EXCEPT FOR DOTA 2 (Which it has an editor for UGC that runs on Source 2) THEY WON'T RELEASE IT TO THE PUBLIC.
maybe valve is just lazier these days after all them steam profits. nah but realistically I'm sure they have their goals they want to meet, and they time take and effort to meet halfway. Maybe at some point Gabe and others realized things we don't know publicly.
That final section sums up modern Valve in a nutshell. Nobody has any god damn idea what they're doing because there's absolutely no direction. I bet Source 2 is nowhere near finished because the four people sitting in a closet somewhere working on it in their spare time left and the others are too busy experimenting.
I can't help but feel that it's a case of too little too late. I'm sure Valves own Source 2 games will be good, their games always are but at this moment Unreal and Unity are becoming industry standards and by the time they get Source 2 into developers hands it will probably end up niche use.
How I see it is, Valve is both waiting for the right time, the right place to unveil and release it - as well as to ensure it has an edge over anything else also being released. Alternatively, with Tools and creation being strongly incentivized, how I usually compare it is the logic that Valve wants Source 2 to be Ready and Done, more 'Complete' than Source 1 ever was, wherein, Garry's Mod and all of its tools and modding capability that uses the engine to such lengths? They would want the engine and something comparable to GMOD 2 being on the ready - and THEN some. Source Vanilla vs Current Source 1 are leaps ahead, Source Launch/Vanilla is ugly as sin and didn't age well.
So, as soon as the tools, engine, modding capabilities are refined much in the way they like to refine Games themselves are in the okay? Then it will be good to go. No betas, no slow launches, just a finely-wrapped present out the door.
As for the final point with Newell's son, I see it as no one wanting to risk saying ANYTHING about the project, that people are afraid of leaks so much so that no one talks about it without Gabes' own consent - no leaks, no slip-ups, people keep their mouths shut - they don't want to 'falsely overhype' like what happened with HL2 and then their servers being hacked, causing a lot of damage. So, being tightly lipped even to family, sounds Normal to me.
