10 unfairest bosses in gaming

10:03
Not all video game bosses are made equally. Some bosses are hard because they are simply unfair. We are here today to name and shame the most annoyingly cheap boss battles that exist in games. From the many overpowered fighting game bosses to the most blatantly unfair boss in Dark Souls. Here are the 10 unfairest bosses in gaming! Thumbnail artwork by EnigaSystem http://www.artstation.com/artist/enigmasystem Galactus - Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3 Get ready to see a lot of fighting games on this list. Somehow the developers of these games really seem to like cheap boss battles. Galactus, the cosmic, planet-eating being, is like a Greatest Hits of unfair fighting game bosses. He's huge in size, has a non-stop laser beam barrage and massively confusing attacks. Capra Demon - Dark Souls The Dark Souls series is known for being tough, but fair… Except for the Capra Demon from the original Dark Souls. Everything about the battle is intended to cheat the player out of a victory, and the developers should be ashamed for its inclusion. What makes the Capra Demon such a hard battle is not so much the demon itself, but rather the area that you fight it in. Shao Kahn - Mortal Kombat 2 Shao Kahn has ruined the lives of arcade goers and console owners for decades. Fans of Mortal Kombat expect a certain level of brutality but the merciless beatings this guy delivers are out of this world. It’s almost as if he knows your exact button inputs even before you enter them. Pretty much the only time you can attack Shao Kahn is when he's taunting you. T Deviljho - Monster Hunter 3 The Monster Hunter series is filled with incredible boss battles. It also has its share of unfair ones, that abuse the lengthy animations of the player. There is one monster that stands out from the rest in terms of unfairness. Its name is Deviljho, and he’s big, fast, and strong. You encounter him in High Rank missions, where he will pose a challenge to the most experienced team of Hunters. Azazel - Tekken 6 Azazel is a fire-breathing crystal dragon that's as tall as the screen in Tekken 6. He has disgusting combo damage with his stomps, unpredictable animations, and immaculate defenses. His enormous size covers the majority of your viewing angle at any given time which is very annoying. Gill - Street Fighter 3: Third Strike Gill is the horribly unfair final boss of Street Fighter 3: Third Strike. His normal attacks cause block damage and his stuns last much longer than yours. His super arts are particularly broken and cause obscene amounts of damage. The guy moves like lightning. Death Egg Zone - Sonic 2 Sonic 2 is a pretty short and easy game. However there is one frustratingly difficult moment and it happens during the final level. Once you reach the Death Egg Zone, you are thrust into two consecutive boss battles. The first is against Metal Sonic. The second is against Dr. Robotnik’s Giant Mech. Seth - Street Fighter IV You think the developers would have learned from the unfair boss in Street Fighter 3. However Seth in Street Fighter IV is just as cheap. His moveset is made up entirely of enhanced versions of the best attacks from other characters. It seems that Seth was intentionally designed to be as frustrating as possible. Dark Souls - Bed Of Chaos The second unfair boss fight in Dark Souls comes in the form of Bed of Chaos. Every challenge in Dark Souls is surmountable on the first try if you give it enough consideration, but not this one. Each time you destroy one of the two anchors placed on either side of the boss, the floor will crumble away. This happens with zero indication as to where or when that will happen. Parace L'Sia - Arcana Hearts 3 This major boss character in the Arcana Heart series is beyond cheap. Her moves are absolute overkill and she so many other unfair advantages. She is fast as lightning, teleports around the arena and combos your health away. She also generates her health the entire fight and has very overpowered special moves. What is the most unfair boss you’ve ever fought? Let us know in the comments and don’t forget to like the video and subscribe to the channel! My Fighting Games Collection

05:24
Here are some of my fighting games from different systems..... Enjoy!!!!.... KOF '98 Ultimate Match An update of the fan-favorite KOF '98, Ultimate Match brings extra characters and 2 additional bosses. Street Fighter Anniversary Collection Capcom releases the beautifully animated, Urban Hip-Hop Masterpiece Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike, an update to its classic SSFII game called Hyper Street Fighter II and the SFII Animated Movie all in one disc. 3rd Strike alone make this game a must have. NeoGeo Battle Coliseum SNK made the fighting game fans go crazy when characters from Fatal Fury, Art of Fighting, Ikari Warriors and Psycho Soldiers battled for the first time on KOF, NGBC brings even more characters from other SNK franchises like Metal Slug, Samurai Shodown and Last Blade in 2 on 2 Tag Team Action!! KOF XI KOF 2003 introduced the Tag system to KOF, but KOF XI upgraded it so now you can switch characters in the middle of a combo or while being attacked!!...in my opinion this is the most dynamic KOF title and a big favorite of mine.. KOF 2002 /2003 As with '98, KOF 2002 is also one of the most acclaimed from the series, the home version brings 3 extra characters from SvC Chaos RotB Iori, Goenitz and Geese Howard. KOF 2003 marks the start of the "Ash Saga" while discarding the 3 on 3 matches from the past titles in favor of the new Tag System, the console version have upgraded graphics and effects, beautifully re-designed stages and A MUCH better Arranged Soundtrack. KOF Maximum Impact SNK first attempt in bringing the KOF series to 3D, the result was such a letdown, the HORRIBLE English voices with no option to change it to Japanese was a big mistake, the combo system favored button mashers more than skilled KOF veterans and he newcomer characters were lame. KOF 2006 After his failed first attempt with MI, SNK releases a sequel KOF Maximum Impact 2 in Japan oddly named 2006 here in the US (which is weird cuz the MI series are not considered cannon) 2006 drastically increases the character roster but in my opinion MI had better character models cuz in 2006 everybody has big hands 0__0 and a LOT OF HORRENDOUS COSTUMES....at least 2006 has the option for Japanese voices. Street Fighter Alpha Anthology A compilation of the SF Alpha titles with the bonus inclusion of the super deformed fighter "Gems Fighter MIni Mix" KOF Neowave First KOF title in Sammy's Atomiswave Arcade, its just like KOF 2002 with some little differences in the roster and 3 different systems to choose from, honestly 2002 is better. MvC2 New Age of Heroes This title needs no introduction, 54 playable characters, assist-mayhem Cable Spamming and super unbalanced title from Capcom still very popular these days, well until MvC3 comes out XD Tatsunoko vs Capcom: Ultimate All-Stars A refreshing newcomer in Capcom's infamous "Vs" series, first a Japan exclusive title but after some time finally it was released in the States, I really enjoyed ths game very much cause included a great cast of my favorite characters like Alex, Batsu, Joe the Condor, and the SUPER AWESOME Polymar, sadly it is a Wii exclusive and the sucky netcode is impossible to find a lag-free match....stil waiting for a TvC2 ;) Blazblue Calamity Trigger I picked this one cuz it was at a cheap price XD, didn't liked it I only played it a few times, but I have to recognize the graphics are awesome and the soundtrack ROCKS!!!!.... Super Street Fighter IV Nice game....nice they included Dudley on the roster....but I still think 3rd Strike is the best SF game ever..... KOF XII After the same graphics over and over each and every year, KOF finally changes discarding all his recycled sprites to gave KOF a next gen 2D look, the graphics are beautiful from the character models to the fightig stages, but with no storyline whatsoever, unfinished character movelists, SUPER CRAPPY NETCODE, and a big letdown on the character roster this one is considered one of the worst KOF ever....hopefully KOF XIII will fix all of this ;) KOF Orochi Collection A compilation of the first 5 KOF titles consisting of the "Orochi Saga" '94, '95, '96, '97 and '98, the game look awesome on he large PSP screen but it suffers from long load times Teken Dark Resurrection Never been much of a fan of Tekken, but theres 2 titles that I like and those are Tekken Tag Tournament for PS2 and Tekken Dark Resurrection for the PSP Street Fighter Alpha MAX Best PSP fighter. PERIOD. 2011 will be an amazing year for fighting games, so many great titles will be released from MvC3, KOFXIII, MK9, Street Fighter X Tekken

The King Of Fighters Extra MUGEN Fei Long (Capcom) Fights

04:07
KOF Extra Unlimited Match M.U.G.E.N With Fei Long from Street Fighter Fei Long (フェイロン, Fei Ron, based on Chinese 飛龍) is a character from the Street Fighter series of fighting games. He was introduced as one of the four "New Challengers" in Super Street Fighter II. A youthful and talented man from Hong Kong, Fei Long began training in Kung Fu from the age of six, eventually developing his own form, and fought on the streets to sharpen his skills until he caught the eye of a movie director, who got him into the movie business. Fei-Long is Capcom's tribute to the Jeet Kune Do movie legend Bruce Lee, the basis for his design. Not only do the two look alike and come from the same city, Fei-Long also lets out similar battle cries to Lee, and is just as furious and fast. Also, Fei Long (飛龍) is Mandarin for "flying dragon", as well as a type of kick. Bruce Lee's Chinese screen name was 李 小龍 (Li Siu-Long) or "little dragon." He was one of the early Bruce Lee inspired characters in fighting games, after Kim Dragon from World Heroes and Liu Kang from Mortal Kombat, but predating Marshall Law and his son Forest Law from the Tekken series, Li Long and Maxi from the Soul series and Jann Lee from the Dead or Alive series. The King Of Fighters Extra MUGEN Ken (Capcom) Fights

03:02
KOF Extra Unlimited Match M.U.G.E.N With Ken from Street Fighter Ken Masters (ケン・マスターズ, Ken Masutāzu?) is one of the main characters from the Street Fighter series of fighting games alongside with Ryu, having made appearances in all major incarnations of the main series. He has also appeared in various installments of the Versus series. When Ken was only 12 years old, his father, a rich hotel tycoon, thought that his son should learn about more discipline from the outside world. He was afraid that his son would become a spoiled brat later on in his life and try to leech onto the Masters' family fortune. In order to do so, the elder Masters sent Ken to Japan to train under his best friend, the mysterious karate master Gouken. At first, Ken was very scared to learn from Gouken, wanting to go back to the United States, but shortly started to like him after seeing how nice he was. He even enjoyed the company of Gouken and his adopted son, Ryu, since he had a foil to finally pull pranks on to make him laugh, although Ken could not get him to do so at times. Ryu and Ken would later become best friends and each other's principal rivals. When Ryu was 23, Gouken decided that both of his pupils had grown up to be fine fighters and decided that their training was over and could now leave the temple. Ryu decided to travel the world in order to continue to learn new things, whereas Ken was finally happy to be going back home to the United States after his years of straining his back for master Gouken and finally learning the meaning of humility. After coming home, Ken competed in many different Martial Arts tournaments held in the United States, winning most of them. This is a King Of Fighters Mugen Series Video from GameDiceHD

Mortal Kombat 4 (N64) - Longplay as Scorpion

13:45
A longplay of Mortal Kombat 4, play as Scorpion. Mortal Kombat 4 (MK4) is the fourth main installment in the Mortal Kombat series of fighting games developed by Midway Games. Released to arcades in 1997, Mortal Kombat 4 is the first title from the series and one of the first made by Midway overall to use 3D computer graphics. Eurocom later ported it to the PlayStation, Nintendo 64, PC, and Game Boy Color during 1998. An updated version titled Mortal Kombat Gold was released exclusively for the Dreamcast the following year. The gameplay system of Mortal Kombat 4 is similar to that of the previous games; one of the most notable additions is the use of weapons and objects during fights. The storyline chronicles the attack from the corrupted Elder God Shinnok against his former comrades who trapped him in the Netherealm many years prior to the beginning of the series. The other 17 playable characters take part in the battle between good and evil, with the forces of light trying to stop Shinnok and the forces of darkness from conquering all the realms. While developing the game, the Midway staff had problems making the graphics as it was one of the first 3D fighting games they developed. Co-creator Ed Boon commented that the staff wanted to make Mortal Kombat 4 more violent than its predecessors, removing the comical finishing moves featured in them. Since its release, the game received generally positive response from critics, with the exception of the Game Boy Color port.

Get schooled by James Chen and KANE317 of Dream Cancel. With the triumphant return of fan favorite characters like Mai, K', and Vice, extensive refinement of the core fighting engine based on community feedback, and vastly improved network functionality, THE KING OF FIGHTERS XIII represents the HD entry in the series that fans have been waiting for. Painstaking effort has been made to address every last concern following the last entry: fights play faster; the addition of over a half dozen play modes offers variety and replayability; the game's beautifully rendered and animated character sprites are better distinguished from the backgrounds--which happen to be richer and more detailed; the camera perspective is less restricted; fighters have more moves, including new supers and the all-new NEOMAX supers; and much, much more! welcome to gamer 242.com the best place for Top 5 Gaming Video. In this Video where looking at The Top 5 Greatest Bosses In Fighting Games Of All Time. Subscribe: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCgABYmlQIVDl54bebd5ALcQ #1: M. Bison, also known as Dictator, is a video game character created by Capcom. First introduced in Street Fighter II: The World Warrior, he is a recurring character and villain in the Street Fighter series of fighting games, acting as the primary antagonist of the series. As one of the series' most iconic villains, M. Bison is widely considered to be the true main antagonist of the Street Fighter franchise. #2: Shao Kahn, also known as The Konqueror, is the main antagonist of the Mortal Kombat series. He is the omnipotent, all-powerful, and dangerous emperor of Outworld. He is the main antagonist in Mortal Kombat II, 3, and 9 as well as the secondary antagonist in Mortal Kombat: Armageddon and the combined main antagonist in Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe. #3: Heihachi Mishima (三島 平八 Mishima Heihachi?) is one of the main characters in the Tekken series and he debuted in the first game in the series and has returned for all subsequent titles. Though seen as the protagonist of the second Tekken game, he is the anti-hero and one of the main antagonists of the series as he is almost always responsible for the events, though his impact on the story has seemed to decrease since Tekken 5. However, after being featured in the debut trailer of Tekken 7, Heihachi may become a pivotal part of the storyline once again. #4: Geese Howard (ギース・ハワード, Gīsu Hawādo) is the chief antagonist of the Fatal Fury series and a secondary villain in the Art of Fighting series. His role varies in the The King of Fighters continuities, though he is the true antagonist in The King of Fighters Neowave. #5: Nightmare (ナイトメア, Naitomea) is the main antagonist of the Soul series. He made his first appearance in Soul Edge, with his proper debut being in Soulcalibur. He is the host, wielder and living incarnation of the cursed sword, Soul Edge, the objective of most other characters in the story.

Mortal Kombat | 2011 | Freddy Krueger Playthrough

11:41
Mortal Kombat is the ninth main installment in the Mortal Kombat series of fighting video games. It is a reboot of the franchise and was developed by NetherRealm Studios and published exclusively by Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment. The game was released for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 systems in April 2011, and a PlayStation Vita port was released in May 2012. An expanded version of the game, titled Mortal Kombat: Komplete Edition, was released for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 in February 2012 and for Microsoft Windows in July 2013. Principal gameplay involves one-on-one 2.5D style fighting. Mortal Kombat uses a single two-dimensional fighting plane (at 60 frames per second), although characters are rendered in three-dimensional fashion, intended to give depth and range to portrayals of various projectiles. Unlike previous Mortal Kombat games, four buttons on the game controller represent attacks and are each linked to a corresponding limb. A new feature is the "super meter", which can be charged by various actions during battle such as performing special moves, getting blocked by the opponent, or getting hit by them. The super meter can be charged to three levels, each of them enabling a different action to be performed. At the first level, it can be used to deliver an enhanced version of one of the character's special attacks; two levels can be used to interrupt a combo attack, and the full three levels allow for the delivery of a special attack called an "X-ray move". The X-ray move unleashes a series of attacks during which the game provides an internal view of the character being attacked, which shows their bones and organs being broken or ruptured. Extra features include a story mode during which the player plays as multiple characters, a Fatality training mode (allowing players to practice executing finishing moves), the Challenge Tower, tag team fighting, and an online mode. The Challenge Tower mode is a single-player option that includes 300 specific challenges of various difficulties providing currency rewards upon completion; players have the option of using in-game currency to bypass other difficult challenges, completing them later. Among the various challenges are "Test Your Might" (rapidly pressing buttons and using specific timing to destroy blocks of varying difficulty), "Test Your Sight" (following an object hidden under a cup or skull and revealing the object after a shuffle), "Test Your Strike" (destroying a specific block in a stack) and "Test Your Luck" (fighting under certain conditions, such as no jumping). The four-player tag-team feature is an original feature, allowing two players to play together. During tag gameplay, two new types of attacks become available. The first of them is the "tag assist" attack, in which the off-screen character temporarily jumps in and performs certain attacks during the active character's combo. The other is the "tag kombo", in which the active character performs a combo that is finished by the off-screen character as they enter the fight. The online mode includes a "King of the Hill" option, where up to eight players can act as spectators and play the winner of a fight. Spectators may also rate the fights and use the "forum" to determine how to perform various combos or moves observed during a fight. A single-use online pass is also included with the game which is mandatory to access the online components. Online passes are also available from the PlayStation Store and Xbox Live Marketplace. There is also a PlayStation 3-exclusive 3D display mode, for which 3D glasses are not necessary. Subscribe us for more Game Videos : http://bit.ly/1LKQF3E

1987 Street Fighter Arcade Old School Game Playthrough Retro game

11:53
Don't forget to subscribe to receive updates on uploads. 1987 Street Fighter Arcade Old School Game Playthrough Retro game Street Fighter (ストリートファイター Sutorīto Faitā?) is a 1987 arcade game developed by Capcom. It is the first competitive fighting game produced by the company and the inaugural game in the Street Fighter series. While it did not achieve the same worldwide popularity as its sequel Street Fighter II when it was first released, the original Street Fighter introduced some of the conventions made standard in later games, such as the six button controls and the use of command based special techniques. A port for the TurboGrafx-CD console was released under the title Fighting Street (ファイティングストリート Faitingu Sutorīto?) in 1988.[1] This same version was later re-released for the Wii's Virtual Console in North America on November 2, 2009,[2] and in the PAL region on November 5, 2009. The player competes in a series of one-on-one matches against a series of computer-controlled opponents or in a single match against another player. Each match consists of three rounds in which the player must defeat an opponent in less than 30 seconds. If a match ends before a fighter is knocked out, then the fighter with the greater amount of energy left will be declared the round's winner. The player must win two rounds in order to defeat the opponent and proceed to the next battle. If the third round ends in a tie, then the computer-controlled opponent will win by default or both players will lose. During the single-player mode, the player can continue after losing and fight against the opponent they lost the match to. Likewise, a second player can interrupt a single-player match and challenge the first player to a new match. In the deluxe version of the arcade game, the player's controls consist of a standard eight-way joystick, and two large, unique mechatronic pads for punches and kicks that returned an analog value depending on how hard the player actuated the control. An alternate version was released that replaces the two punching pads with an array of six attack buttons, three punch buttons and three kick buttons of different speed and strength (Light, Medium and Heavy). The player uses the joystick to move towards or away from an opponent, as well to jump, crouch and defend against an opponent's attacks. By using the attack buttons/pads in combination with the joystick, the player can perform a variety of attacks from a standing, jumping or crouching positions. There's also three special techniques which can only be performed by inputting a specific series of joystick and button inputs. These techniques are the "Psycho Fire" (波動拳 Hadōken?, "Surge Fist"), the "Dragon Punch" (昇龍拳 Shoryūken?, "Rising Dragon Fist") and the "Hurricane Kick" (竜巻旋風脚 Tatsumaki Senpū Kyaku?, "Tornado Whirlwind Kick"). Unlike the subsequent Street Fighter sequels and other later fighting games, the specific commands for these special moves are not given in the arcade game's instruction card, which instead encouraged the player to discover these techniques on their own.[3] Developer(s) Capcom AlfaSystem Pacific Dataworks Tiertex U.S. Gold Publisher(s) JP/NA/EU Capcom JP Hudson Soft NA NEC NA/EU GO! The King of Fighters 97 Athena Asamiya

02:20
Athena Asamiya (麻宮アテナ, Asamiya Atena) is a character originally from the former SNK's video game Psycho Soldier and a distant relative and modern-day counterpart of Princess Athena from the game Athena. She later appears in The King of Fighters series of fighting games as a female fighter character and has appeared in every one of its editions. She was also given her own RPG game Athena: Awakening from the Ordinary Life in 1999 released only in Japan for the Sony PlayStation. She is perhaps best known for changing her outfit and hair style for virtually every new KOF game. Athena was a highly anticipated character for the King of Fighters lineup and developers relate that they are constantly working to keep her in the series. Throughout the years, her sailor uniform outfit was a frequent request from Japanese fans that was denied due to the belief that it wouldn't translate well with the overseas audience (this kept up until recent installments). Her official nickname is The Psychic-Powered Idol. In the character popularity poll on Neo Geo Freak's website, she was voted as the tenth favorite character with a total of 1,020 votes.

Soulcalibur V is a video game developed and released by Namco Bandai Games for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in 2012. The sixth main installment in Namco's Soul series of fighting games, Soulcalibur V is the follow-up to Soulcalibur IV and retains the weapon-based combat that characterizes the series but follows a new character, Patroklos, who aims to rid his sister of a curse brought upon her by an ancient weapon. The game was positively received but was often criticized for the removal of many iconic characters from the earlier games in the series and its lackluster story mode. The King of Fighters 97 Mai Shiranui

04:30
Mai Shiranui (不知火 舞, Shiranui Mai) is a character from both the Fatal Fury and The King of Fighters series of fighting games by SNK (now SNK Playmore). She was originally not planned to be included in Fatal Fury at all, as her fighting style was created for a different male ninja. When developers shifted their focus to including an idol character into the series, they decided to scrap the Shiranui man for Mai. Her characteristic "bounce" was loosely modified from a kunoichi (female ninja) method of assassination: to be sensual to their unassuming prey before they strike. According to an issue of Neo Geo Freak, her breasts were modeled after Fumie Hosokawa and her bottom is modeled after Ai Iijima; both women were famous idols at the time. Mai was rated #4 in GameSpy.com's "Top Ten Babes in Games" feature and #5 in Game Informer's "Top Ten Hottest Girls of the 16-Bit era." In the character popularity poll on Neo Geo Freak's website, she was voted as the fifth favorite character with a total of 2,380 votes. Along with the many figures and merchandise that have been made in her image, she has made an outside game appearance in the spin off series Queens Gate.

The Fighting Game Divide

The divide in fighting games has been quite transparent ever since I began getting to know the FGC in late 2011. However, this divide which stemmed from a negative outlook, somehow managed to spark a positive outlook. THE KING OF FIGHTERS 2000™ - BLUE MARY

04:05
Mary Ryan, better known as Blue Mary is a character from both the Fatal Fury and The King of Fighters series of fighting games developed by SNK. Blue Mary's first appearance was in the arcade and console game Fatal Fury 3: Road to the Final Victory which introduced her as a special agent who investigates two criminals known as the Jin Brothers. During the series, Mary meets Terry Bogard, and he becomes a love interest of hers. She is also featured in The King of Fighters in which she enters several consecutive 'King of Fighters' tournaments, changing teams over time. Blue Mary has also appeared in the twenty-minute featurette Memories of Stray Wolves based on the Fatal Fury series. Android 18, a character from the Dragon Ball manga was Blue Mary's model during development of the series. Her appearances in The King of Fighters owe to popularity polls developed by three video game journals, with Mary being first in Gamest's poll allowed to her to become playable for The King of Fighters '97 and subsequent installments. Video game publications have commented on Blue Mary's character, praising her introduction in Fatal Fury 3 and her development through various games.

Let's Compare ( Mortal Kombat )

13:28
Description Source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mortal_Kombat Mortal Kombat, commonly abbreviated MK, is a series of fighting games created by Ed Boon and John Tobias. The first four renditions and their updates were developed by Midway Games and initially released on arcade machines. The arcade titles were later picked up by Acclaim Entertainment for the home console conversions. Beginning with Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance, Midway Games exclusively created home versions of Mortal Kombat up until Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe. Following Midway's bankruptcy, the franchise was sold to Warner Bros. in July 2009 and became a part of the Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment Branch.[1] The series began originally as a game based on the popular actor martial artist, Jean-Claude Van Damme. The idea fell through and Mortal Kombat was born instead. As a result of its success, Mortal Kombat has spawned many sequels and has been spun off into several adventure games, films (animated and live-action), and television series (animated and live-action). The Mortal Kombat series has inspired several songs, including "Techno Syndrome," otherwise known as the "Mortal Kombat Theme." Other spin-offs include various comic book series, a card game and a live-action tour. The original three games and their updates, Mortal Kombat, Mortal Kombat II, Mortal Kombat 3, Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3, and Mortal Kombat Trilogy, were styled in a 2-D fighting fashion with gameplay consisting of five buttons that were high punch, low punch, high kick, low kick, and block. Reviewers have stated that because of this the characters are only differentiated by their special moves. In fact, some reviewers have criticized that the "bewildering array" of special moves in comparison to other fighting games has resulted in too little focus on regular moves.[2] The series is especially noted for its realistic digitized sprites (which differentiated it from its contemporaries' hand-drawn sprites), and its high levels of blood and gore, including, most notably, its graphic Fatalities—finishing moves, requiring a sequence of buttons to perform, which, in part, led to the creation of the ESRB.[3][4] The series name itself is also known for using the letter "K" in place of "C" for the hard C sound, thus intentionally misspelling the word "combat," as well as other words with the hard C sound within later games in the series. Early games in the series were infamous for the prominent use of palette swapping to create new character sprites. Gameplay According to 1UP.com, the early Mortal Kombat characters played virtually identical to one another with the only major differences being special moves.[5] In an interview with Computer and Video Games, Ed Boon stated, "[...] since the beginning, one of the things that's separated us from other fighting games is the crazy moves we've put in it, like fireballs and all the magic moves, so to speak."[6] When asked if Street Fighter and Mortal Kombat would do a crossover, Street Fighter producer, Yoshinori Ono, called Mortal Kombat a very different game from Street Fighter.[7][8] The Capcom Senior Director of communications compared Street Fighter and Mortal Kombat in an interview with Gamasutra by asking if the interviewer preferred the "precision and depth" of Street Fighter or the "gore and comedy" of Mortal Kombat; he also stated that the Street Fighter and Mortal Kombat rivalry was considered similar to the Coke and Pepsi rivalry in the 1990s.[9] In an interview with Video Games Daily, Senior Producer of Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe, Hans Lo, called Street Fighter a little more technical fighter in comparison to Mortal Kombat.[10] Midway would keep their single styled fighting moves with four attack buttons which were a different array of punches and kicks and block until they changed this in Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance by differentiating characters normal moves and even giving them multiple fighting styles. Beginning in Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance and until Mortal Kombat: Deception, the characters would have three fighting styles per character: two unarmed fighting styles, and one weapon style.[11] Few exceptions to this arose in Mortal Kombat: Armageddon, such as monster-like characters like Onaga and Moloch who would have only one fighting style.[12] Most of the fighting styles featured are based on real martial arts styles, though a few of them are not.[13] Goro's fighting styles, for example, are designed to take advantage of the fact that he has four arms. For Mortal Kombat: Armageddon, fighting styles were reduced to a maximum of two per character (generally one hand-to-hand combat style and one weapon style) due to the sheer number of playable characters.[12]
