3 Easy Memory Games for Seniors
http://GetBrainGames.com - Scientific Brain Games for Seniors Surveys of seniors have shown that at least 3 in 5 seniors are concerned about memory loss or loss of mental capacity. Yet aging doesn't have to mean losing memory. In fact, many seniors manage to get smarter and have better memories as they age. Most senators and many past presidents are over the age of 50. Many CEOs of Fortune 500 companies are over the age of 50 or 60. It's not age or the passing of time that causes memory loss. It's when the brain ceases to be used that it starts to atrophy. One way to prevent memory loss and improve your memory is to challenge your mind and memory every single day. Here are three simple and easy memory games to help keep your mind active and your brain healthy. 1. The Matching Cards Game. Take a deck of cards and remove all diamonds and clubs. Then remove all the face cards. In the remaining deck are 20 cards, from Ace to Ten in just hearts and spades. Shuffles these cards and place them face down. Flip two cards over at a time and try to match the cards. Anytime you match two cards, remove them from the table. Try to clear the table in as few turns as possible. 2. The Remember Later Game. Sometime during the day, pick something to remember. For example, you might walk down the hall and tell yourself to remember that 12 plus 12 is 24. The next day, ask yourself: What was the thing you wanted to remember? Try to play this memory game with different things, like tasks, events, people's behaviors or phrases. 3. The Word Association Game. This game stretches your memories of words and concepts. It requires at least two people to play, but can be played with as many as four to six. Pick a category of words, such as foods or people. One person starts wit a word. The next person has to say a word where the first letter is the last letter of the previous word. For example, if the category is "food" and someone says "Apple," the next person might say "Egg," then someone might say "Grape." These games can all help you keep your mind sharp. Choose a game that you find both fun and challenging. Try to play a memory game every day. If you keep your mind active, you'll find that as you age your mental prowess will grow stronger rather than weaker. One easy way you can get in the habit of playing memory games is to leverage the power of software. There are many great memory game software that you can download, each designed to be both fun to play and challenging to the mind.

Do Brain Training Games Like Lumosity Really Work?
http://blackbeltmemory.com/?WickedSource=Youtube&WickedID=Do-Brain-Training-Games-Like-Lumosity Get memory training that works at link above In marketing the illusion of improvement is just as good as improvement. Unfortunately I believe this is what is happening with the popular brain training games like Lumosity, Fitbrains and Cogmed. In my opinion but more importantly in the opinions of many scientists when you play these brain training games you may get better at those specific games but you won't see any lasting memory improvement. The reason is you are not learning memory techniques. Memory techniques are what truly improves your ability to store data and recall. I've done several videos on the Mind Palace. If you couple the Mind Palace techniques with the games then you have something. The Lumosity, Fitbrains and Cogmed games aren't bad. In fact I believe they are good but they are just half the story. What would really make these games worthwhile is if you learned memory techniques along with the games. Then the brain training would actually become brain training that makes a difference. Studies also tell us that exercise is one of the best forms of brain training. Exercise can actually change your brain. I'm not suggesting you cancel your membership to any of these brain training companies. However, I am suggesting that you learn memory techniques such as the Mind Palace if you want to see true memory improvement. If your goal is to actually change your brain then exercise is one of the proven few things that can do that. Brain training is amazing and worthwhile but you have to do it the right way. Happy brain training!

5 harmful effects of excessive video gaming
5 Most harmful effects of excessive video gaming Today More than 1.2 billion people are playing video games worldwide, and sales of games are growing. This popular form of media has both positive and negative effects on children. But playing video games too much, that can be a bad thing. Video game addiction can be as problematic as gambling. So, let’s dig into the harms of going into the deep end of video gaming. Obesity Scientists claim that video games make teenagers hungry and more likely to become obese. Over 45% of America’s 12 - 17 year olds spent more than two hours per day glued to a screen, and more than 1 in 7 children are overweight. Because video games are nothing but kicking back on the couch and punching buttons. And definitely sitting around for hours on end with minimal movement can make you more susceptible to health issues associated with obesity. The best approach is to mix in a little exercise and healthy snacks every few levels. Computer Vision Syndrome Most video games require lengthy involvement to finish any particular game, forcing the player to stay focused on the screen during playtime, and it is not great for your eyes. Prolonged bouts of video gaming can also cause symptoms very similar to Computer Vision Syndrome, or CVS. And also, it can cause a wide range of problems, most commonly led by eye strain and eye pain. To help prevent eye strain, make sure you have proper lighting to reduce glare, take frequent breaks to rest your eyes and blink often. You might miss that power up, but your eyes will thank you for it. Backaches Backaches are a common physical symptom of gaming addiction because most gamers stay seated in the same position for hours. The lack of movement causes stiffness and soreness, but could deteriorate into chronic back problems. So, if you must play, at least fix your posture. Migraine Migraine headaches typically start in one spot and slowly spread, getting more painful as they progress. In severe cases, the pain can be so extreme that it causes the sufferer to vomit. Light and noise can cause excruciating pain. While there are countless triggers for migraines, people who play video games for extended periods of time are more prone to these headaches because of the intense concentration required while gaming, as well as the strain put on the eyes by staring at a bright screen. Aggressive Behaviour and Mental Problems According to a new review of research, violent video games are linked to more aggressive behaviours among players. Children are at risk of becoming more impulsive, socially awkward, and more likely to become addicted to gaming over time. They are frustrated by resistance to accept studies that link violence to the video games as well as the lack of action on the issue. Kids who play violent games also tend to have more aggressive fantasies and engage in more aggressive behaviours. Enjoy and stay connected with us!! These games require focus, reactions and rapid decision making and as such can increase awareness, focus, creative thinking, memory, pattern recognition and more. I share some of the action games that I think are particularly good for testing your skills and discuss how future games could be even more effective for training thanks to new technologies like the Oculus Rift. Playing Video Games Induces Positive Changes in Your Brain a New Study Finds
Please like, subscribe, comment and share! SUBSCRIBE: https://www.youtube.com/user/DrJohnKiel FACEBOOK: https://www.facebook.com/medicinelifestyle TWITTER: https://twitter.com/LifestyleMedYou This really interesting study that was recently published seeking to assess the relationship between playing video games and cerebral plasticity. Neuroplasticity refers to the ability of the brain to change behavioral and environmental stimuli. The video game industry itself generates more than 10 billion dollars in revenue per year. Playing games requires a multitude of complex cognitive and motor demands among the millions of people who play them every day. This study sought to investigate this relationship. A grey matter increase refers to an increase in size of the cell body of neurons or nerve cells. The hippocampus plays a role in the limbic system and memory formation. The prefrontal cortex is one of the more advanced regions of the brain and is responsible for certain executive functions. The cerebellum plays a role in motor control and coordination. This is a gross generalization just to mention their function and I would strongly encourage you to learn more if you are interested in neuroanatomy. The hippocampus increase also correlated with changes from egocentric to allocentric navigation strategy. Egocentric means you are recognizing spatial relationships to yourself. Allocentric means you are recognizing spatial relationships relative to other objects and not just yourself. The authors thus conclude "Video game training augments grey matter in brain areas crucial for spatial navigation, strategic planning, working memory and motor performance going along with evidence for behavioral changes of navigation strategy." Interestingly, these changes were also more pronounced in individuals who expressed an increased desire to play the game.

The History of Video Games: 1947 - 1954
The late 1940's and early 1950's are the early, early history of video games. The programs created almost 70 years ago are barely even games by todays standards. But they are still games in some respects, and their importance to the history of video games cannot be understated. This video looks at the history of video games from 1947 through 1954, covering a few of the most important “games” and people from those years. This is… The History of Video Games: 1947 - 1954. So we have to go back, way back, to the 1940’s. The earliest know interactive electronic game was the cathode-ray tube amusement device, invented by Thomas T Goldsmith Jr and Estle Ray Mann. When it was invented is a mystery lost to time, but a patent was filed in early 1947 for the device. It’s not technically a video games because it uses no actual computing, just analog hardware. Despite that fact, 1947 is when my history of video games officially begins. A few years later, in 1950, another very basic game was created, called Bertie the Brain, developed by Josef Kates. Bertie the Brain was a tic-tac-toe game with an adjustable difficulty and electronic display, and the user could play against the computer or Artificial Intelligence, as it’s sometimes referred. Bertie the Brain was part of a 2 week exhibition, allowing people to play it. Unfortunately, it was dismantled soon after the exhibition due to Kates not having the energy to spare to preserve it. Not even a year later, the Nimrod computer was created. Nimrod gets its name from the game it plays, Nim. I don’t know much about Nim, as it’s mathematical sort of game, and I never cared for math. Nimrod was designed by John Bennett, who is notable because was was Australia’s first professor of computer science. The Nimrod is notable due to it being the earliest known computer game to have any sort of visual interface. 3 weeks after being shown in October 1951, Nimrod was dismantled. Not long after the Nimrod’s untimely dismantling, the first game to use a CRT display was created. It was a checkers game created by Christopher Strachey. Strachey developed the Combined Programming Language in the early 1960’s. BCPL, which originally stood for Bootstrap CPL, was later developed as a much simpler version of CPL. BCPL led to the B programming language, which influenced the C programming Language which is one of the most popular programming languages used today, depending on who you ask. Strachey’s checkers game was created on the Ferranti Mark 1. The Ferranti Mark 1 was the world’s first commercially available electronic computer. While modern computers can do it in seconds, the Ferranti Mark 1’s chess game analyzed the board to check for every possible move, of which there were thousands. It usually took between 15 and 20 minutes to complete. The game was also not a complete chess game. The Ferranti couldn’t handle that. Instead, the game was what’s known as a “mate in two chess problem”. Mate-in-two is essentially where a checkmate must happen within two moves. The University of Toronto purchased the Mark 1 in 1952 for a measly $30,000, which is almost $270,000 today. In 1954, the first game to use graphics was created. And by graphics, I mean that the graphics updated in real time as the game went on. It was a pool game created by William Brown and Ted Lewis. It was created solely for demonstration purposes for the MIDSAC computer at the University of Michigan. That takes us to the end of 1954. By this time, games advanced from simple analog hardware to games with graphics that updated in real-time. In the next episode, we’ll start the more well known early games, starting with Tennis for Two.

How video gaming, texting & computer affect the brain - Joe Dipenza part 2
Joe Dispenza, D.C., studied biochemistry at Rutgers University in New Brunswick, N.J. He also holds a BS degree with an emphasis in Neuroscience. Dr. Dispenza also received his Doctor of Chiropractic Degree at Life University in Atlanta, Georgia, graduating magna cum laude. Over the past decade, Dr. Dispenza has lectured in 24 different countries on six continents educating people about the role and function of the human brain. He has taught thousands of people how to re-program their thinking through scientifically proven neuro-physiologic principles. As a result, this information has taught many individuals to reach their specific goals and visions by eliminating self-destructive habits. His approach, taught in a very simple method, creates a bridge between true human potential and the latest scientific theories of neuroplasticity. He explains how thinking in new ways, as well as changing beliefs, can literally rewire one's brain. The premise of his work is founded in his total conviction that every person on this planet has within them, the latent potential of greatness and true unlimited abilities. His first book, Evolve Your Brain: The Science of Changing Your Mind connects the subjects of thought and consciousness with the brain, the mind, and the body. The book explores "the biology of change." That is, when we truly change our mind, there is a physical evidence of change in the brain. As an author of several scientific articles on the close relationship between the brain and the body, Dr. Dispenza ties information together to explain the roles these functions play in physical health and disease. His DVD release of Evolve Your Brain: The Science of Changing Your Mind, which was filmed in Australia, is based on the book and looks at the ways in which the human brain can be used to affect reality through the mastery of thought. He also sits as an invited editorial advisor of Explore Magazine. In his research into spontaneous remissions, Dr. Dispenza has found similarities in people who have experienced so-called miraculous healings, showing that they have actually changed their mind, which then changed their health. http://www.drjoedispenza.com/ To support the juicy living tour and to watch more video interviews, visit http://www.JuicyLivingTour Donate now to support the Juicy Living Tour at http://juicylivingtour.com/support-the-juicy-tour/donate-now/ Stay tuned on the Juicy Living Tour and where it is right now in the world from Lilou's facebook fan page at http://facebook.com/liloumacewebtv

Tom Chatfield: 7 ways video games engage the brain (ted.com)
Video from www.ted.com really great site with tons of educational and inspirational videos. I tried uploading the video earlier but it wouldn't let because it was over 15 mins so I sped it up by 11% and tried again. This has absolutely nothing to do with fractals but I really wanted to upload it and out of my 3 channels I think it's best off here. I've been thinking about expanding this channel to show some of my other digital work and talk a bit about technology anyway. I've loved computer games since I could hold a joypad and I've been interested in game creation since my dad taught me to program when I was 5. Funny how so many atheists want to "play god" by creating virtual universes. I utterly despise the way some people blame computer games for violence and other social ills so I was really happy when I came across this video. I may have more to say on the positives of gaming at a future date. My first 3D HD fractal is rendering at the moment but at this rate it looks like it's going to take about a week to complete, I really need a faster machine.
