Rail fares will rise by 6.2% in January

01:52
Some rail fares in England will rise by 6.2% in January - about double the rate of inflation - although other price rises may be higher. Unions have warned that, some, fares could even jump by 11% affecting most rush-hour travel, season tickets, and off-peak fares. This is because the Government is allowing train firms to raise fares by 3% more than RPI or retail price inflation, which is used to calculate the rises from January. So some English fares will rise by RPI plus 3%, while in Scotland they will go up by RPI plus 1%. Wales has yet to set a figure for its increase. There are no fares increases currently planned in Northern Ireland, where fares are not linked to RPI, after a 3% rise in April. In response to this news a series of demonstrations are being held at 40 railway stations across the country today. Campaigners claim that privatisation has resulted in us having the highest train fares in Europe, with commuters to London spending 15 % of their salary getting to work. Bob Crow, leader of the Rail Maritime and Transport union, said passengers will be "rightly angry" when they find out the full extent of inflation-busting fare increases imposed on them by Government "diktat". He also added 'that up to 20,000 jobs in the rail industry are at risk under cost-cutting proposals, which will hit station staff, guards, catering and ticket offices. 18. Monetary Policy

01:11:32
Financial Markets (2011) (ECON 252) To begin the lecture, Professor Shiller explores the origins of central banking, from the goldsmith bankers in the United Kingdom to the founding of the Bank of England in 1694, which was a private institution that created stability in the U.K. financial system by requiring other banks to have deposits in it. Turning his attention to the U.S., Professor Shiller outlines the evolution of its banking system from the Suffolk System, via the National Banking era, to the founding of the Federal Reserve System in 1913. After presenting approaches to central banking in the European Union and in Japan, he emphasizes the federal funds rate, targeted by the Federal Open Market Committee, as well as the recent change to pay interest on reserve balances at the Federal Reserve, enacted by the Emergency Economic Stabilization Act from 2008, as important tools of U.S. monetary policy. After elaborating on reserve requirements, which are liability-based restrictions, and capital requirements, which are asset-based, he provides a simple, illustrative example that delivers an important intuition about the difficulties that banks have faced during the recent crisis from 2007-2008. This leads to Professor Shiller's concluding remarks about regulatory approaches to the prevention of future banking crises. 00:00 - Chapter 1. World's First Electric Generator

03:49
Huge thanks to the Royal Institution, Professor Frank James, and Katie Atmore for filming. For the Sixty Symbols version of this experiment click http://bit.ly/RGfLY5 Michael Faraday created the first electric generator in 1831 using a coil of wire and a permanent magnet. When the magnet was moved relative to the coil, current was induced in the coil. A similar experiment can be performed with a copper tube and a magnet. Although copper is not magnetic, it is a conductor. As the magnet falls through the pipe, the magnetic field changes over different sections of the pipe. This induces swirling currents (called eddy currents), which create a magetic field that opposes the motion of the magnet. This means work must be done to move the magnet through the pipe. This work generates the electrical energy, which is then dissipated as thermal energy in the pipe. The same basic principle is used to generate electricity throughout the world: moving a magnet inside copper coils. Watch the latest episode of The Daily Energy Report on Blip! http://blip.tv/the-daily-energy-report/watch Energy Department Announces New Investments to Accelerate Breakthroughs in Cost-Competitive Solar Energy This week, the Energy Department announced new investments totaling $10 million, for university-led projects to increase efficiencies of solar systems and lower costs for concentrating solar power technologies. The projects are under the Departmentapos;s SunShot initiative, a collaborative national effort to make solar energy cost competitive with other forms of energy by the end of the decade. These investments will bring together university teams from Berkeley, Colorado, Arizona and Stanford, as well as industry experts and national facilities? engineers, to advance innovative research and accelerate technology transfer into the marketplace. The efforts will establish research partnerships and new full programs at a Scientific User Facility. California Better Buildings Challenge Partners Showcase Energy Savings Projects with U.S. Energy Department Officials Under the Better Buildings Challenge, part of the Obama Administrationapos;s comprehensive strategy to help companies to save money by reducing energy waste in commercial and industrial buildings, three companies have positioning as the leaders of the nation by investing in energy efficient projects. Supervalu Albertsonapos;s Carpinteria store, one of the most energy-efficient and environmentally friendly supermarkets in the country has reduced energy use per square foot by 30%. U.C. Irvine reduced energy use in its Natural Science II building by 51%, using "smart" energy controls for air conditioning, ventilation, and lighting. These efficiencies are projected to save $150,000 per year in this lab. HEIapos;s renovation of the Marriott La Jolla hotel near San Diego includes a lighting upgrade, programmable thermostats in guest rooms, and upgraded HVAC controls. These upgrades will result in a 27% reduction in energy use in 2013 and will save the company an expected $200,000 annually. El Paso becomes first large city in Texas to adopt 2012 Energy Codes?sort of.. In Texas, the City of El Paso is the first city on the state that has adopted the 2012 International Energy and Conservation Codes, for new residential and commercial construction and mayor renovations. More energy efficient lighting and increased insulation are some of the regulations involved in the code, and according to a recent analysis by the Energy Systems Laboratory at Texas A M, homes built to the 2012 standards would be some 8 to 18 percent more energy efficient. Although the code is not obligatory yet, there are certain initiatives to encourage customers to use the 2012 codes, for instance, the state will give a 50% discount on the permit fee to the first 100 cases that follow the 2012 codes. Pemex Finally Strikes Oil in Deep Waters This week president Felipe Calder?n of Mexico announced that PetroleosMexicanos (Pemex), Mexican state-owned petroleum company, found for the first time, oil in deep water in the Gulf of Mexico. According to the New York Times article, Mexico is the third largest supplier of imported crude oil to the United States and the new find could be part of a much larger oilfield with the potential to produce from 4 to 10 billion barrels of crude oil. Pemex has spent almost $4 billion on deep-water exploration and under a complicate political atmosphere in the country, with current laws that prevents Pemex from forming partnerships with foreign companies,Enrique Pe?a Nieto, Calderon?s successor for the presidency has said he will propose new laws to allow private companies to invest with Pemex. Increase in Consumer Credit

04:42
http://profitabletradingtips.com/trading-investing/increase-in-consumer-credit Increase in Consumer Credit By www.ProfitableTradingTips.com The recent increase in consumer credit in the USA is widely credited to growing consumer confidence. What does an increase in consumer credit mean for stock traders? Successful stock trading requires a sense of where the markets are going. Traders gain perspective by means of both technical and fundamental analysis of stocks. They also follow both broad and specific economic indicators. Here is where an increase in consumer credit comes into play. Hopeful consumers are willing to buy consumer goods on credit, purchase new homes, buy new cars and do a myriad of things that require credit. More consumer spending translates into more sales, more manufacturing, more transportation, and more economic growth. An issue for stock traders is whether to trade individual stocks or index funds such as those that follow the S&P 500 or Russell 3000. If in increase in consumer credit is a prelude to economic recovery in the US then a rising tide may indeed raise all ships, or stocks, in this case. Rather than trying to outguess the market and find individual tradable stocks, traders can trade a broad index fund. In doing so, the trader can often limit his fundamental analysis to economic indicators. By using technical analysis a stock trader can follow and anticipate changes in market sentiment. He can often profit by trading index funds and not worry about the performance of or fundamentals of individual stocks. The current increase in consumer credit has two broad implications. The one we have already mentioned is that an increase in the use of credit goes with increased consumer confidence. It also goes with more hours on the job, conversion from part time to full time work, and having paid off old bills. The cash and barter economy in the USA is real and often not included in any meaningful statistical reports. To a degree the increase in consumer credit may be seen as the tip of the iceberg of consumer wellbeing. If individuals see themselves as having put their financial houses in order or have stashed enough cash and paid off enough bills they may feel secure in buying consumer goods on credit. It is this second interpretation of consumer borrowing that implies a stronger than expected economy. Whether our speculations about a stronger than expected economy are right or wrong makes little difference, however, to the technical trader. He may suspect that United States Economic Expansion is gaining a head of steam. However, he will use technical indicators a guide in buying and selling stocks. He may choose to keep his cash outside of the market except when scalping profits on high volume trading days. Many traders use stock options as a tool for trading the stock market. When buying calls and puts on stocks or index funds the trader limits his investment risk and also leverages his cash investment. As always we are not predicting economic expansion or any specific direction for the economy. Rather we are suggesting a thought process for traders to go through in search of trading profits. Mission Impossible: Constructing Charles Babbage's Analytical Engine (d)

01:27:25
The Neukom Institute at Dartmouth presents: Mission Impossible: Constructing Charles Babbage's Analytical Engine Given by Doron Swade on May 8th at Dartmouth College Computing is widely viewed as a phenomenon of the electronic age. The mechanical prehistory of computing tends to be seen as a cozy gas-lit back-story to the undoubted triumphs of modernity, but a past to which the electronic computer owes little. So it perhaps surprising to claim that the core ideas in the realisation of the modern computer emerged explicitly in the 19th century in the designs for vast automatic calculating engines conceived by the English mathematician Charles Babbage, and in the work of Ada Lovelace, daughter of Lord Byron. Babbage's work has been revisited in the modern era: his massive Difference Engine No. 2, designed in the late 1840s but unbuilt in his lifetime, was completed in 2002, and a project is now underway to construct for the first time his legendary Analytical Engine, the first design for a full-fledged, automatic, programmable, digital computing machine. This presentation reviews Babbage's pioneering work on automatic computing, locates his work in its historical context, and describes the scale, scope and planned outcomes for the construction of the Analytical Engine. Zynga Stock Free Fall: Online Game-Maker Announces Reduced Revenues

00:47
Farmville is in the dust bowl and the conditions seem to be getting worse. Online game-maker Zynga announced it will post a loss in the third quarter and also cut its revenue forecast, and the company's stock promptly plunged to all-time lows—down almost 75 percent since Zynga went public last December. The company's fortunes are being hurt by people migrating away from Facebook, the primary home of Zynga's games, and spending more time on mobile devices. But one analyst put it more bluntly, "their bread-and-butter games are not working too well." Zynga CEO Mark Pincus says he's planning "targeted cost reductions." The company has already lost eight senior managers since August; which has to make some wonder how much longer before it's time to pack up the plantation.

Mark Ruffalo, Marco Krapels, & Mark Z. Jacobson: "Power the World with Wind, Water and Sunlight"

01:04:55
What happens when you put a movie scientist in the room with a real scientist? You hope to inspire millions to take part in an energy revolution! Mark Ruffalo, known for his portrayal of Dr. Banner and the Incredible Hulk, will speak with Mark Jacobson of the Stanford Atmosphere/Energy Program and Marco Krapels of Rabobank about powering the world with wind, water and sunlight. Global warming, environmental pollution, and energy insecurity are three of the most significant problems facing the world today. This talk discusses a technical plan to solve these problems by powering 100% of the United States' and world's energy for all purposes, including electricity, transportation, industry, and heating/cooling, with wind, water, and sunlight (WWS) within 20-40 years. As part of the plan, we consider transmission infrastructure, resources, reliability, catastrophic risk, materials, costs, health effects, job creation, revenue streams, and policies needed. We discuss a detailed version of the plan for New York State and its potential application to California and other states. We also discuss the public engagement needed and how social media can help to implement the plan on the state, national, and international levels. About the Speakers: Mark A. Ruffalo is an Oscar-nominated actor and advocate of addressing climate change and renewable energy. In March 2011, Mark co-founded Water Defense to raise awareness about energy extraction impact on water and the public health. A regular contributor to the Guardian and the Huffington Post, Mark is a recent recipient of the Global Green Millennium Award for Environmental Leadership, and the Meera Gandhi Giving Back Foundation Award. He was named one of Time Magazine's "People Who Mattered" in 2011. Most recently, he played Dr. Banner and the Incredible Hulk in the box-office hit, The Avengers. Marco Krapels is the Executive Vice President of Rabobank N.A,,where he runs the commercial banking product groups including its capital markets and renewable energy finance divisions. He co-chairs the bank's Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) committee, where he's initiated notable sustainability efforts, including a Rabobank solar/Tesla electric car project featured in the New York Times. Marco is co-founder and board member of Empowered by Light, which promotes renewable energy solutions for 1.6 billion people living without electricity. Mark Z. Jacobson is Director of the Atmosphere/Energy Program and Professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Stanford University. He is also a Senior Fellow of the Woods Institute for the Environment and Senior Fellow of the Precourt Institute for Energy. He is on the Energy Efficiency and Renewables Advisory Committee to the U.S. Secretary of Energy. He co-authored a 2009 cover article in Scientific American and two more recent articles in Energy Policy with Dr. Mark DeLucchi of U.C. Davis on how to power the world with renewable energy.

Fitness Business Marketing Tip - Change Your Credit Card Numbers

07:43
http://askroccomedia.com Hey everybody Rocco Castellano here, I really want to talk to you about something that a lot of people just don't even have on their radar. And you know, with the internet now and with all the stuff that we do digitally and pay for things, most of us don't carry money around. I don't. I literally have $1 in my wallet. And that $1 just happened to be change by accident. Somebody messed up on my debit card and they had to give me a dollar. It was a mistake... so now I have a dollar. So, most of us don't really carry cash around. Or when we do, we still put the debit card in the ATM and we get the cash out. One thing though... I'm a freak about security. I really am. If you guys know me, I'm always giving some type of safety tip. Many of my safety tips revolve around finances or insurance. I'm always looking at ways to make sure that you're not vulnerable because your peace of mind can be totally disrupted when something goes wrong at the bank, with your debit card, with your credit card, or somebody stealing your identity. Its' really easy now to steal somebody's identity. I'm not going to go into it because I don't want to teach people how to fuckin' do it cause that would be wrong of me. I want you to take your card and I want you to only use one card and I prefer it be a credit card. Not a debit card. Debit Cards expose your bank account and cash too much. Watch this video at Super-Trainer.com The one thing that I want you to be able to do is pay online with that same card. If you have online payments, if you have subscriptions, if you have any recurring payments, always use the same card. Only use one card for that, because if you use three different cards or more, it's going to be very confusing for you... one card and done. When you use one card, it's going to make life for you a lot easier. And then every 6 months, I want you to change your credit card number. You see, if you only use one card online, you'll only have to change that credit card number. You won't have to change your address, you don't have to change all that stuff. It's only one card number. Yeah, it's kind of a pain in the ass if you have 10 recurring payments or 10 subscriptions but the thing is... if you change it, you get into that routine and you mark it on your calendar it becomes easier and easier. Mark it on your calendar, every 6 months on a Sunday or a Saturday and spend an hour. It's one hour's time. I do it every 6 months and all I do is call the bank. I say listen, I want a new card. I shred that one and they bring me a new one. That's all. If you change your credit card number every 6 months -- it's very unlikely that you will ever have a problem with identity theft. These are things that most people in the fitness industry don't even think about. They have no clue. ... I'm going to pay for gas, I'm going here, go there. And then all of a sudden their credit card numbers are stolen, their identities are stolen and then boom you've gotta deal with a problem -- you've gotta spend a lot of time instead of working ... you're spending time on something that could have easily been taken care of in 1 hour. Now you're spending 2 days, 3 days, 7 hours at a bank. You call on the phone, crying, bitchin'... boo fuckin' hoo. If you could just, every 6 months change your credit card number and only use one card, that's all you have to do for a little peace of mind. Use one credit card and preferably one with rewards. So if you can get an American Express Card -- Now, I'm not endorsing American Express, but it's a charge card and you usually get triple rewards. I'm going to talk about using your charge card as a business tool in a different blog post/video. Once you learn how to use a financial institution's tools to actually make money and save money, you will always going to be better off. Skip Your Next Tax Payment

02:21
http://www.IowaTaxPlanner.com/video.php If you feel like you pay too much tax, you probably do! If you're like most Americans, taxes are your biggest annual expense. Even the Government Accountability Office estimates that small business owners overpay their taxes by as much as $950 million each year. So why does this happen? Most tax preparers are great at putting the right numbers in the right forms and filing them by the right deadlines. They take the history that you give them and report it to the IRS, but then they call it a day. We call that Reactive, or After-the-Fact Planning, and it just doesn't produce any tax savings. It's a lot like trying to drive your car using just your rear view mirror. You're always looking in the past! The bottom line is, if you really want to pay less tax, you have to plan ahead. You need someone who will help you write your history with a complete menu of ProActive tax strategies and concepts that are all court-tested and IRS approved. But it takes more than just learning about the hundreds of deductions, credits and loopholes available to start paying less tax. You have to put those ideas into action. By filling out the form at http://www.IowaTaxPlanner.com/video.php, I will get you started by sending you a free chapter from my best-selling book, Secrets of a Tax Free Life. As a Bonus, you'll also be subscribed to my Video E-Series that will give you even more practical strategies designed to help you take some of the money you're already spending and turn them into tax deductions. You'll learn things like how to avoid the single biggest tax mistake of all, how to deduct your children's expenses like private school and summer camp, how to beat rising medical costs by being able to deduct all of your medical bills (and it doesn't use a Health Savings Account), how to audit-proof your tax return from the IRS, and a lot more. Some of these strategies are so powerful that you may even be able to skip your next tax payment to the IRS! But it takes planning and action to do that. So sign up now and start saving! http://www.IowaTaxPlanner.com/video.php

Richard Martin: "SUPERFUEL: Thorium, The Green Energy Source for the Future" | Talks at Google

53:04
Richard Martin was the first to write about thorium in the mainstream press. His feature story in Wired catalyzed the thorium power movement. An award-winning journalist whose work has appeared in Time, Fortune, The Atlantic, and The Best Science Writing, Martin is the editorial director of Pike Research, a leading clean-energy firm. He lives in Boulder, Colorado with his wife and son. Abstract: In this groundbreaking account of an energy revolution in the making, Martin introduces us to thorium, a radioactive element and alternative nuclear fuel that is far safer, cleaner, and more abundant than its more volatile sister, uranium. As we grapple with the consequences of nuclear energy disasters such as last spring's meltdown at Fukushima and the proliferation of atomic weapons, not to mention our problematic dependence on Middle Eastern oil, thorium is reemerging as an overlooked energy source. Martin thoroughly articulates the world's past and present development of thorium as an energy source, and he details its benefits as an element that can wean us off our fossil-fuel addiction while averting the risk of a nuclear meltdown. "Richard Martin tells a story that needs to be understood for our future energy supplies rely upon hard choices. Martin makes at least one of those difficult decisions ever so much easier by educating us on our troubled history and experience with nuclear energy, and even more importantly for the future development of this essential source of 21st century clean energy. This is the type of book that can make a difference!" --John Hofmeister, author of Why We Hate the Oil Companies "Bringing back to light a long-lost technology that should never have been lost, this fascinating, important biography of thorium also brings us a commodity that's rare in discussions of energy and climate change: hope. "-- Chris Anderson, editor in chief of Wired "Thorium is the younger sister to uranium, less volatile, slower to self-consume, and as many have contended without success, much better suited as a source of nuclear power than uranium. Superfuel by award-winning science writer Richard Martin tells the Cinderella story of thorium in a fast-paced, insider's account. This short, well-written book is a must read for those interested in understanding thorium's past and its potential to be a clean, renewable energy source for the future."-- Cynthia Kelly, President Atomic Heritage Foundation. This talk was hosted by Boris Debic.

United States Economy At Risk? Fedex Earnings Miss & Downside Guidance

01:44
http://www.StockMarketFunding.com United States Economy At Risk? Fedex Earnings Miss & Downside Guidance (VIDEO). U.S. stock market futures slipped Wednesday after FedEx Corp. cut its profit outlook for the quarter ended last week, but regained some ground after the Labor Department said U.S. companies got more productivity from their workers this spring than originally estimated. The company lowered its first-quarter earnings guidance to a range of $1.37 -$1.43 per share, from the prior estimate of $1.45 - $1.60 per share. Analysts polled by Thomson Reuters expect the company to report earnings of $1.71 per share for the first-quarter. Analysts' estimates typically exclude special items. FedEx said the weak global economy is hitting its revenue from its express unit, which ships about 3.5 million priority packages per day. That unit handles a large amount of export business from Asia, and the slowdown reflects lower spending in both the U.S. and Europe. Meanwhile, costs are rising, especially for fuel. FedEx shares fell about 3 percent premarket trading. Additionally, FedEx (FDX) stock is downgraded to Market Perform from Outperform at Wells Fargo, which cites slower growth and a lack of visibility.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ltlttp4ocC8&feature=plcp (for part 2) *NOTE: this video is not for skeptics (at least as a stand alone video), but for journalists gathering lists of links and videos to show people in presenting their case in defense of the possible victims of government bullying. if you want to turn the comment section into a debate, you will be blocked. there are MANY youtube channels where you CAN debate this EXACT same stuff, just please not on this one channel. most of the time, people like me LOVE to debate this, but not for this one, as it's mainly intended for those who want to use it in combination with other well put together conspiracy research material (for instance: the money masters by bill still, john perkins interviews, excitotoxins: the taste that kills by dr. blaylock, the world according to mansanto, etc.). re-uplaod. all respect to original poster. just contact me we can talk about if u want this taken down but i STRONGLY want people to know about this stuff. VERY well put together research, but keep in mind op took it down at some point so i dunno. anyone watching may want to download this video for backup, re-uploading purposes the reason i'm blocking people who post comments like "where's the evidence" "it doesn't exist i know this to be true.. " etc. is b/c gathering the evidence is EXTREMELY complex and in many ways it's NOT as linear and straightforward as people would like it to be. for instance: your foods are FILLED with excitotoxins that have been proven to cause severe brain damage, but do people believe that? they do the same routine of denial: "WHERES THE EVIDENCE OMFG IT'S NOT REAL AHH I HATE YOU!" it's not hard to find a video where people will argue with you in the comments section about research links and "cold hard proof". Also, is it REALLY that hard to believe that conspiracy exists on this planet?? Seriously?? All throughout history the international bankers have collaborated to enslave humanity as indentured servants. Videos like The Money Masters (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HfpO-WBz_mw) and John Perkins economic hitman (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aqIHKWd9rSc) are full of insight into the actual political process and how completely conspiratorial it is. You think it's really THAT unreasonable that the establishment is corrupt enough to mastermind the suppression of something like this? And lastly, you think technology is really that limited that we can't even solve our own little energy crisis? I can't pull people's heads out of the propaganda toilet unless they are DECENT human beings willing to look at things from multiple angles and with careful attention and empathy.
